Hybrid Supercar Drag Race: Lamborghini Revuelto Vs. Ferrari SF90 Vs. Porsche 918 | Car Scoops

The results show that hybrid super sports cars are not much faster on a straight line today than they were a decade ago

Hybrid Supercar Drag Race: Lamborghini Revuelto vs. Ferrari SF90 vs. Porsche 918

  • The Porsche 918, Ferrari SF90 and Lamborghini Revuelto all use hybrid technology.
  • Although they came out in different years over the last decade, they perform similarly in a drag race.
  • Here’s one of our first opportunities to see how Lamborghini’s latest flagship stacks up against the competition.

Product specifications tell us a lot about the Lamborghini Revuelto, but its real-world performance tells us more. A comparison with two other hybrid super sports cars says even more. Here you have the opportunity to experience a head-to-head race with a Ferrari SF90 and the legendary Porsche 918.

The Revuelto is Lamborghini’s latest supercar flagship. With a 6.5-liter V12 and three electric motors, it produces 1,001 hp (746 kW) and 783 lb-ft (1,062 Nm) of torque. It then transfers all the momentum to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

It competes against a Ferrari SF90 with a 4-liter V8, also equipped with three electric motors for a total output of 986 hp (735 kW) and 589 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Although it also has all-wheel drive, it’s worth noting that it weighs around 200kg less than the Lambo. Finally, there’s the Porsche 918, a car that was originally part of the first “Holy Trinity” of hybrid supercars.

It does Only It produces 874 hp (651 kW) but has 1,280 Nm (943 lb-ft) of torque from its 4.6-liter hybrid V8. It also splits the weight ratings of the other two cars, so on paper it’s probably closer than many realize. How will they all cope in a series of drag races? There’s only one way to find out.

In the first race, the Revuelto jumps ahead by a car, while the Porsche quickly falls into the background due to a bad start. About halfway through the quarter mile, the Ferrari begins to close in on the rampaging bull and manages to catch him and overtake him before the finish line. Could it be that Carwow’s Matt Watson missed a shift? No, he says, because he apparently left the car in automatic mode the whole way.

In the second race, the Ferrari driven by the Revuelto owner stalled at the finish line, giving the Lamborghini an even bigger lead. Nevertheless, the SF90 manages to almost overtake it again, but the most interesting thing is that the Porsche remains on par with the Ferrari.

Finally, there is a driver change in the third race and the SF90 absolutely leaves the Lamborghini and the Porsche behind. But here too the 918 is close, not even a car length behind the brand new Lamborghini flagship. These anecdotal results don’t actually prove anything other than the fact that the Porsche 918 is still a blisteringly fast supercar, even against all-new metal.
