Kareena Kapoor Khan Appointed National Ambassador by UNICEF India: Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

In its 75th year of partnership with India, UNICEF India today announced the appointment of one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated stars, Kareena Kapoor Khan, as the organization’s National Ambassador. In her role, Kareena Kapoor Khan will support UNICEF India in promoting every child’s right to early childhood development, health, education and gender equality.

Kareena Kapoor Khan has been a UNICEF India celebrity advocate since 2014 and is a strong advocate for girls’ education, gender equality, basic learning, immunization and breastfeeding. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Khan advocated for children’s learning and the return to school once it reopens. She has been instrumental in several global UNICEF campaigns on #EveryChildRights.

On being appointed as UNICEF Ambassador for India, Kareena Kapoor Khan said: “There are few things as important as the rights of children, the future generation of this world.” It is an honor to continue my association with UNICEF as national ambassador of India. I will strive to use my voice and influence for vulnerable children and their rights, particularly in the areas of early childhood, education and gender equality. Because every child deserves a childhood, a fair chance, a future.”

At the same event, UNICEF India also announced the appointment of its first-ever Youth Advocates to serve as peer leaders and advocates on issues such as climate action, mental health, innovation and girls in STEM. Between the ages of 16 and 24, the four lawyers have specific areas of interest. Gauranshi Sharma from Madhya Pradesh on the right to play and inclusion of people with disabilities, Kartik Verma from Uttar Pradesh on climate change and child rights advocacy, Nahid Afrin from Assam on mental health and early childhood development and Vinisha Umashankar from Tamil Nadu is a budding innovator and STEM -Specialist pioneer. These youth advocates are part of the UNICEF global program and join a cohort of more than 93 youth advocates appointed around the world who are driving change on children and youth issues.

Speaking on his appointment as Youth Advocate, Kartik Verma said, “Youth can drive change in India. As UNICEF India Youth Advocate, I will use my voice to express the concerns and perspectives of children and youth, especially marginalized and vulnerable communities, to various stakeholders.”

“I am delighted to be appointed as a Youth Advocate by UNICEF India. “It is a great opportunity for me to use my voice to highlight issues that many young people struggle with, including mental health,” said Assam youth advocate Nahid Afrin.

Speaking at the conference, UNICEF India Representative Cynthia McCaffrey said, “UNICEF is pleased to welcome Kareena Kapoor Khan as our National Ambassador, building on her years of commitment to promoting children’s rights” through her support of multiple national and global campaigns she brought energy and impact. She joins the UNICEF family as a UNICEF National Ambassador in India along with our four youth advocates. We look forward to working with her and the four youth activists to continue to advocate for children’s rights.”
