West Ham vs Liverpool: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

West Ham United can dash Liverpool’s fading hopes of a Premier League title when they host the Reds early on Saturday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s final season is shaping up to be a difficult one, with Liverpool falling behind Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race after defeat at Everton in midweek. It was a nightmare of a derby for the Reds, who were bullied in their own penalty area and woefully inefficient in the business department.

A Klopp favorite at kick-off on Saturday lunchtime is next on Liverpool’s agenda and they face a West Ham side who enjoyed a much-needed break in midweek after suffering a heavy defeat to a rejuvenated Crystal Palace last weekend had suffered. Just days after Bayer Leverkusen knocked them out of the Europa League, the Hammers were beaten 5-2 in south London.

The David Moyes era is seemingly coming to an end, but the Scot will be keen to end a great tenure on a high.

The Hammers have a few defensive injury concerns, with Nayef Aguerd expected to miss out with an ankle injury and Konstantinos Mavropanos doubtful with a knock.

Leading goalscorer Jarrod Bowen is suffering from a back problem but coach David Moyes hinted in his press conference that he might take part. The England international missed last weekend’s defeat at Selhurst Park and was sorely missed.

Expected West Ham line-up against Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Coufal, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Alvarez, Soucek; Kudus, Ward-Prowse, Paqueta; Antonio.

Cody Gakpo

There will certainly be changes compared to the team that lost at Goodison on Wednesday evening.

The ailing Ibrahima Konate, burned-out midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister and goal-shy Darwin Nunez are expected to leave Klopp’s team.

Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Ben Doak on Saturday, but Cody Gakpo is back in contention.

Predicted line-up for Liverpool against West Ham (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Endo, Gravenberch; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz.

Liverpool are running out of steam and their performance in the derby shows a team seemingly unable to outlast their title rivals after enduring such an emotionally draining season.

The Reds’ title dream was all but dashed in midweek and another tough away day is on the horizon. West Ham have hardly caused any excitement in recent weeks and they were depressed last weekend, but they will benefit from having the day off before this game on Thursday evening.

The Hammers can be ruthless in transition and hope to exploit Liverpool’s back line, but their defense has also been shaky of late. There should be goals in east London, with a draw potentially dashing the Reds’ title hopes.

Prediction: West Ham 2-2 Liverpool
