The shopper is then seen carrying the bollard over his head like a weapon as he confronts the alleged attacker before the video ends.

The alleged attacker in the clip appears to match the description a witness previously gave ABC News Australia as “a man in a green and yellow T-shirt.”

The New South Wales Police Force confirmed in a news release on April 13 that the attacker fatally stabbed six people and injured several others. Rescue workers responded to the scene at 3:30 p.m. local time and the attacker was shot at the scene, according to police.

“An officer from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and was allegedly confronted by a man with a knife,” the statement said. “The man is said to have lunged at the officer before he was fatally shot.”

New South Wales Police Commissioner Anthony Cooke told reporters: The Sydney Morning Herald, that “a single unit officer” found the attacker at the scene before the attacker “pointed a knife at them.” The officer “fired the firearm and that individual has since died,” Cooke said.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said in a press conference, according to 7News Australia, that authorities are “awaiting formal identification” of the attacker and that they have “determined who we believe the perpetrator is,” describing a ” 40-year-old man.” Webb added that the man acted alone.

She said police were confident there was “no ongoing risk” and that the mall would remain closed on April 14.

“A critical incident team comprising the State Crime Command and Central Metropolitan Region Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances of the incident. “The investigation will also be subject to an independent review,” police said in their news release.

After the fatal attack, Kate Middleton and Prince William expressed their condolences on Instagram Stories, writing that they were “shocked and saddened by the terrible events in Sydney today.”

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected, including the families of those who died and the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others,” the royal couple added.
