Talk about leveraging family connections! On Wednesday, usher shared a “quick story” about how his son recently used his phone to connect to PinkPantheress – and it worked.
The 45-year-old GRAMMY winner took to his Instagram Story to share the incident in multiple slides. According to the musician, his 15-year-old son Naviyd stole his phone “about a week ago” to send a DM to his “favorite artist” PinkPantheress. Usher shares screenshots of the messages exchanged between Naviyd and the 23-year-old singer, who appears to be amused by the entire interaction.
The teenager introduces himself in his opening message, letting the viral pop singer know that he is using his father’s phone to reach her. In a message, Naviyd asks PinkPantheress to follow his Instagram account, much to her surprise. “hahahahahaa,” she writes back, “that’s wild!” Naviyd replies that he didn’t think she would respond and thanks her for liking his post.
Usher shares that he noticed the singer’s direct message when he got on his phone and immediately went to investigate since he didn’t recognize her account. When he realized what his son had done, he apologized to PinkPantheress, who kindly offered to host the father-son duo on a future show.
Although Usher shared that he wanted to punish Naviyd by pretending he couldn’t participate, he eventually relented. “I had to send him, considering how dedicated and creative he is, to figure out how to get your attention by stealing my phone,” he wrote in a message to PinkPantheress. “Hopefully you’ll be able to link.”
And they linked; In a post on his Instagram page on Sunday, Naviyd shared several photos from his evening at the PinkPantheress concert, including some photos with the singer backstage.
“To hell with it,” the enterprising teenager captioned the photo gallery.
Usher shared a screenshot of Naviyd’s video call on the night of the concert, showing PinkPantheress waving Headliner of the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Usher ended his Instagram Story time by sharing his parenting insights. “That was a great moment for Naviyd… that was the moment he focused on something that was close to his heart. Yes… he betrayed my trust in doing so and that’s why I will never trust him around my phone, but I should have known better,” he wrote.
“Still, I appreciate the hustle and him for making it happen. From a text to a concert to the artist. He planned the whole thing and made it possible. #HustleHard,” he concluded.
Naviyd is clearly learning from his father when it comes to making things happen. It’s only been four months into the year and Usher is already done his historic and often sold-out Las Vegas residencyrocked that Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, the knot tied with his long-time love Jennifer Goicoechea and received the key to his hometownChattanooga, Tennessee.

“It was an incredible moment that we thought was amazing,” he told ET. “It was a button at the end of an incredible run in Las Vegas. My mother was there, her mother was there, the children were there, our immediate family was there. In fact, everyone was surprised. I’m like, ‘No, no, no, we’re having a wedding right now.'”
“It’s been a hell of a year, but it’s been a hell of a career,” he told ET. “At 45, you hope that you’re just warming up, or that your employment, your 10,000 hours, will give you these accolades. You’re starting to reap the rewards of that, so I’m really happy about that. “I’m being recognized here and for what I love to do, which is helping youth.”
Usher and Goicoechea have been linked ever since They were first photographed together in 2016. They then sparked romance rumors when they were seen at producer Keith Thomas’ birthday party in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2019. The couple confirmed their relationship when Usher was photographed kissing the Miami-born music executive backstage at the Hollywood Bowl in October 2019.
The eight-time GRAMMY winner and Goicoechea have since welcomed two children together, daughter Sovereign Bo, 3, and son Sire Castrello, 2.
The marriage is Usher’s second: The R&B crooner was previously married to Tameka Foster, with whom he has sons Usher Raymond “Cinco” V, 16, and Naviyd.
