- Google is preparing an update for Contacts that will redesign the Create Contact page with a less burdensome design.
- The update will first display the most important fields in Contacts, such as name, company and phone number, before additional options are displayed.
- Most importantly, all of the “extra fields” for a contact are housed in a new submenu where users can select whatever they want.
Google is preparing a new update for Contacts that will overhaul the user experience around the Create page.
As detailed by AssembleDebug at Android Authority, Google’s upcoming 4.30.50.62 The Contacts build updates the Create Contact page by bringing the required elements front and center. There’s also a handy “Favorites” star icon at the top of the page. Directly under the “Add Image” option, users will soon find fields for a person’s first name, last name, company, and phone number.
Google then dispenses with the remaining text fields and instead relies on a few pill-shaped buttons.
In Contacts, you’ll see some helper options for adding an email, an “important date,” an address, or a “label.” Additionally, Contacts features numerous additional fields that will soon be added to the Add Fields button at the bottom of the redesigned page. The detailed look reveals that tapping the option will bring up a floating menu at the bottom of the interface that includes fields like middle name, prefix, suffix, nickname, and more.
Finally, Google seems to be paying more attention to the Notes field when creating new contacts. The first preview of the redesign shows that the text box is much larger, as it completes the original list of available contact options before adding more.
The change to the Google Contacts creation page is intended to improve the user experience. Currently, everything on the page appears as a mundane list full of fields you probably don’t want to fill out. The redesign now only displays the essentials, alongside the ability to add a field of your choice. In the current (old) contact view there is the “More fields” option, but this leads to problems everything into it, adding to its disorder.
These changes should be available as a Play Store update for Google Contacts version 4.30. However, as the release states, the rollout has not started yet.
The company has been slowly revamping the experience Contacts offers users, rolling out the latest version in March. The update removed the app’s old navigation bar as Google slowly moves away from the UI design trend. A drop-down menu below the search bar allows users to quickly customize their view. There is also a custom ringtones page hidden under the Repair & Manage tab.
