Sophia Bush courageously broke her silence about her sexuality and publicly identified as queer.
The A tree hill Star reveals in a cover story for Glamor Magazine that she has long felt that her sexuality existed on a spectrum, but now feels comfortable accepting the term “queer.”
“I think I always knew that my sexuality existed on a spectrum,” Bush shares. “I have experienced so much safety, respect, and love as an ally in the queer community throughout my life that as soon as I returned to myself, I felt like it was my home. I think I’ve always known that.” “My sexuality right now exists on a spectrum that I can best describe without smiling.”
Bush, who is a vocal supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community, expresses her frustration at the need to come out in 2024, a time marked by what she says are the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history. She emphasizes the importance of honoring the act of coming out amidst hostility and discrimination.
Her journey to self-discovery was deeply personal and marked by introspection, therapy and the support of loved ones. Bush opens up about her experience of shedding the burden of societal expectations and embracing her true self.
“I finally feel like I can breathe. I don’t think I can explain how profound this is. I feel like I’ve been wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long. “I didn’t realize how heavy it was until I finally put it down,” she says.
The actress also talks about her relationship with the football star Ashlyn Harris, 38, confirms their romantic relationship. Bush reveals that their relationship blossomed in the wake of their respective divorces and emphasizes the profound impact their romance had on their lives.
However, Bush complains about the invasion of privacy and the spread of false narratives around her Divorce from ex-husband Grant Hughes, 42, and her subsequent relationship with Harris. She vehemently denies the accusation of infidelity and emphasizes the emotional toll of being subjected to rumors and harassment.
“The idea that I left my marriage because of a hysterical tryst – which, to be clear, never happened – rather than the fact that it took me over a year to do the most soul-destroying work of my life? Instead of realizing I did it.” “I’m more vulnerable on a public stage than ever before, even though I’m scared to my core? It feels brutal,” Bush says.
Despite the challenges, Bush expresses gratitude for the unwavering support of her family, especially her parents Charles and Maureen, who embraced her journey with love and acceptance.
bush And Harris made hers first joint public appearance in March at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 32nd Annual Academy Awards Party in West Hollywood, California. Bush stunned in a gorgeous burgundy Marmar Halim dress with a thigh-high slit, paired with a sparkling, jeweled choker. Meanwhile, Harris wore a sharp suit with an ivory button-down shirt, diamond stud earrings and a slew of sparkling necklaces.
The couple was photographed inside the star-studded eventwhere they posed for a photo will and grace Star Eric McCormack.
“Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris arrived at the Elton John Aids Foundation Oscar party together, but went through security and entered the party separately. The two kept a low profile, avoiding the media and hanging out with friends,” a source told ET at the time. “This happened after the happy couple had a fun time with friends at South by Southwest in Austin. The two enjoyed the festivities in Austin and made a point of keeping a low profile.”
This first became known in October Bush and Harris had sparked a romance shortly after both broke up with their partners – Hughes and Ali Krieger respectively.
A source told ET at the time, “Sophia and Ashlyn are dating and are into each other… Even though it’s new, the two are on the same page and are talking about their future together.”
Bush filed for divorce from Hughes in August 2023 after 13 months of marriage. “Grant and Sophia are better off as friends and they didn’t have enough time together before their breakup…It wasn’t ugly and they still support each other and want each other to be happy,” a source told ET at the time.
Meanwhile, Harris, a former U.S. women’s national soccer team star, filed for divorce from Ali Krieger in September. The couple, who tied the knot in 2019 after meeting in 2010, are parents to Sloane, 3, and Ocean, 1.
Harris later released a statement on social media in November: She addresses her breakup and speculation about her romance with Bush.
“A few weeks ago, a process that had been going on privately for some time became public,” Harris wrote of the divorce filing in September. “Ending a relationship after nearly 13 years of friendship, team partnership, marriage and co-parenting (many of them good years) is a decision not made lightly.”
Harris addressed the rumors that she was unfaithful during her marriage, calling them “unbearably painful” and untrue.
“People have run away with a narrative that is unbearably painful. Not all marriages last forever. Not ours. For many reasons,” she wrote. “And while I understand that the false narratives about why that is might feel better or make a better headline, they are simply not true.”
She continued: “Let me be clear: “Let me be clear: I have not given up on my marriage. I have always been faithful in my marriage, although not always completely happy. Like many relationships, there was work in therapy and processing. “None of this happened on a whim.”
