Replacement of components under warranty or AppleCare+

So what if you still have all the parts but something isn’t working properly? Luckily, Apple’s AirPods and AirPods Pro are protected by a one-year warranty.

The service for all AirPods with reduced battery capacity or a defective battery within this period is free. Service for battery issues outside of this one-year warranty period will incur a charge of $49 for each defective AirPod or $98 for the pair. A replacement AirPod charging case costs $49. If you need to replace the battery on your AirPods Max headphones, you’ll spend $79.

If you are the type of person who values security, you should subscribe to AppleCare+. For two years of coverage for AirPods, AirPods Pro, and Beats, it costs $29 and $59 for AirPods Max, and you can add it up to 60 days after purchase.

AppleCare+ limits replacement fees and covers some repairs. For an AppleCare+ plan, the new replacement fees are as follows:

  • AirPods Pro 1st and 2nd Gen: $29

  • Charging Case for AirPods Pro 1st and 2nd Generation (MagSafe and Wireless): $29

  • AirPods 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen: $29

  • All AirPods 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation Charging Cases: $29

When it comes to repairing damaged components, AppleCare+ gives you unlimited accidental damage protection for the two years you have the plan. However, keep in mind that every time you file a claim and send your product to Apple, you will be charged a $29 repair fee, on top of the $29 (or $59) you are already charged for have paid for the AppleCare+ plan.

What about the AirPods Max?

The AirPods Max – Apple’s over-ear headphones – are a single unit, meaning they’re easier to replace or repair.

If you have two years of AppleCare+ worth $59, each AirPods Max repair will cost you $29. This should also cover replacement services if necessary. You can also replace the AirPods Max earpad only when necessary, which is useful if an earpad tears. If you don’t have AppleCare+, you’ll need to call or chat and ask for specific replacement pricing in your region.

However, there is one significant limitation when replacing AirPods Max under warranty: new ear pads are not included as standard. This means you will either need to keep the cushions from your previous pair or purchase/replace new cushions for your new model.

Can I upgrade my charging case?

Apple has introduced a new feature for its AirPod Pro Gen 2: USB-C charging! Of course, this means that newer versions of the MagSafe case ditch the Lightning port in favor of the latest USB standard.

Luckily, the company is allowing owners of the MagSafe Lightning case to upgrade to the USB-C model, which offers improved UWB location tracking and an IP54 rating for dust and water protection. The cost of this is $99.

It’s also important to note that Apple no longer offers replacement cases for AirPods Pro Gen 2 with Lightning. So if your original case is lost or damaged, you’ll need to upgrade to a USB-C model.
