134-Mile 2002 Ford Focus resurfaces, this time for auction

  • This 2002 Ford Focus only has 134 miles on the clock because it has been in storage most of its life.
  • The car was originally delivered to a dealer in Montana that went out of business in the mid-2000s.
  • The car is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

A few months ago we told you the story of a 2002 Ford Focus that was listed for sale in Montana and had only 117 miles (188 km) on it. At that time the asking price was $20,000. Fast forward to April, and this very car was put up for auction on Bring a Trailer with no reserve price.

This Focus LX was originally delivered to the Rygg Ford Sales dealer in Kalispell, Montana. However, the dealer went bankrupt in the mid-2000s and the car remained in storage until it was purchased in 2022. It appears the seller had no luck unloading the car the traditional way and decided the best route was to sell it through an online auction.

Since it was first listed online, the Focus has been driven 17 miles (27 km) and now has 134 miles (216 km) on the clock. Despite the low mileage and the fact that the Focus was rarely driven, it suffered hail damage to the roof, hood and trunk lid.

The rest of the bodywork is still in good condition and the Twilight Blue Metallic paint still looks fabulous. It retains the original 14-wheel steel wheels and has been fitted with new 185/65 Hankook Kinergy ST tires.

Photos of the car’s underside and engine compartment show how little it has been used over the past 22 years. The engine bay looks immaculate and the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission should continue to run smoothly.

The listing states that the timing belt, front crankshaft seal, battery, and fuel pump were all replaced in 2022. Buyers should be aware that some rusted exhaust and suspension components may need to be replaced or at least thoroughly cleaned.

A look at the original window sticker shows that the compact sedan’s MSRP was $14,000 in 2002. That’s equivalent to $24,305 in today’s dollars, illustrating how inflation has affected car prices over the years.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can take part in the auction at BaT. Currently the highest bid is a modest $4,100, with just two days left until the auction ends on April 30th.
