The Golden Bachelor‘S Gerry Turner makes his separation from Theresa Nist officially. The 72-year-old reality TV star has filed for divorce from his 70-year-old wife, whom he married in a televised ceremony on ABC in early January, Friday in an Indiana court.
According to court documents obtained by Page sixTurner cited an “irretrievable breakdown” as the reason for the separation and gave the date of separation as April 12th.

“Theresa and I have had a number of heartfelt conversations and looked closely at our situation, our living arrangements, etc., and we’ve both kind of come to the conclusion that it’s probably time for us to call it quits.” “Our marriage,” said Turner said while sitting next to Nist and holding her hand.
As for what led to their divorce, Turner vaguely remarked, “What strikes me most in our conversations is how committed we both are to our families… I think we both feel like it’s for everyone’s happiness.” What is best for each individual is that we live separately.
He insisted he “still loves” Nist, adding: “I still love that person. I have no doubt that I am still in love with her. I cheer for her every day.”
The exes said they have a married couple and would recommend them to others, and said they don’t want to deter others from a second chance at love. “I don’t think we can tell you how many people have told us it has given them so much hope. We don’t want that to change for anyone,” Nist said.
And Nist insisted Turner’s love history played no role in the former couple’s decision, saying she was already well aware of his past.
During the first season of The Golden Bachelor, Nist met with Turner’s daughters Jenny and Angie and his granddaughters Payton and Charlee, who shared in their father’s and grandfather’s happiness and gave Nist their approval.
“If Dad proposed to Theresa, I think it would be a great thing. “I would be very happy for him,” Jenny said in one of the final episodes of the show’s first season, and Angie added, “I really am.” I think I could imagine him getting on his knees and her marry.”
The restaurateur finally gave Nist his last rose, knelt down and asked for her hand in marriage.
“You’re the person I can’t live without,” he said in the final episode. “Theresa, I love you 1,000 percent. I will never stop believing that I choose you every day.”

Nist chimed in, saying she was still in disbelief: “I was open to the experience and the opportunity to get married again, but who would have thought? That is amazing. That’s incredible.”

Turner’s Golden Bachelor Runner-up Leslie Fhima, who he tearfully dumped on the season finale, didn’t publicly respond to the news, but instead shared a smiley snapshot from her recent spa vacation in Costa Rica.
Fellow contestant Joan Vassos wrote on her Instagram story: “My heart goes out to my good friends Theresa and Gerry, who have made the difficult decision to separate. I know they care deeply for each other and will always have a special relationship between them.”
