Courteney Cox Says Johnny McDaid Broke up with Her in a Therapy Session

Courteney Cox went into a therapy session and discovered she was single after just a minute.

The couple, who have been together since 2013, sought therapy in hopes of resolving their issues. However, Cox was shocked when McDaid decided to abruptly end their relationship right at the start of the session. Reflecting on that moment, Cox expressed her disbelief, saying, “I didn’t know it was coming.”

Despite the initial pain and surprise, Cox recognized the breakup as a pivotal moment that led to her profound personal growth.

“Whether it was about being adored by men. Things I couldn’t let go of in a relationship. Not to take things personally. My boundaries, I just went into myself and had a great therapist,” Cox said.

The actress also emphasized the courage to end a relationship and acknowledged the fear of pain that often prevents people from making necessary decisions. However, she emphasized the transformative power of facing challenges head-on: “Once you are brave enough to make decisions and endure the pain, everything is easier.”

Cox and McDaid eventually reconciled despite their decision to break up end their engagement. Cox described the decision as “strange” but expressed gratitude for the growth it enabled.

Cox took to Instagram in September to Celebrate 10 years of love with McDaid, whom she first met through their mutual friend, Ed Sheeran.

Cox posted a montage of photos of herself with McDaid to the opening notes of Sheeran’s hit “Shape of You.” The post ends with a video of Sheeran sitting next to the happy couple and singing a personalized version of the song with the lyrics “Johnny is in love with your body.” The cute video ends with Sheeran touching the Snow Patrol band member’s face and joking, “Johnny’s beard is the shape of you.”

Cox was previously married to David Arquette, with whom she has a daughter named Coco. Their marriage lasted from 1999 to 2003.
