Bath and Windsor host national races on Bank Holiday Monday, with Star Anthem headlining the eye-catching Maiden Stakes.
2.50 Bath – Star Anthem looks to be the one to beat
Clive Cox’s Star anthem was unlucky not to hit the mark when he suffered a narrow defeat to Hawaiian on his debut at Newbury last month. Jack Mitchell takes charge of Fleurir in this victory with Eco in the Eco Scheme Handicap, while Roger Varian’s filly returns after a ten-month absence. If she performs like she did when she won the same mile at Pontefract that day, she should be a frontrunner here.
Among the others, Ring Of Light stands out as an interesting contender. The six-year-old, partnered here with Trevor Whelan, enjoyed an impressive 2022 handicap season but failed to achieve the same success on his return at Windsor last month. If he can regain the form that took him to three consecutive Winners’ Enclosures two years ago, we could have a contender on our hands.
Also look out for Lunatick, who will be racing for the first time since he was gelded in October. Hughie Morrison’s four-year-old comes from seven furlongs to a mile here, but may prefer heavier ground than the expected good to soft ground.
3.10 Windsor – Normandy Legend and Vibrato meet in Novice Stakes
Normandy Legend hit the frame last time at the all-weather tournament, but had to go back to the grass Gabby Fullbrook Memorial Novice Stakes in Windsor. Trainer James Ferguson will be looking for improvement after his first start in the Novice Stakes class when he was outclassed at Salisbury.
The real showstopper here is Vibrato, making his first appearance on the pitch for the Gosdens and Michael Tabor. Galyx is also there, trained by Jack Channon, who has recorded 14 winners from 70 appearances so far this season.
