Benny Blanco spills on his Clueless Moment with Selena Gomez.
In a new interview for WSJ MagazineThe 36-year-old producer admits he was “the last person to know” he was in love with the 31-year-old pop star.
“It’s crazy how your partner can be right in front of you the whole time and you don’t even notice,” he tells the magazine, referencing the hit 1995 film starring Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd. “And then you have this Clueless Moment when you think, “Wait, I’m in love.”
Blanco previously produced Gomez’s 2015 hit “Same Old Love” and the duo playfully appeared on screen together in the music video for their 2019 collaborative track “Same Old Love.” “I just can not get enough.” Most recently, Blanco produced Gomez’s latest, “Single Soon” from 2023.
Beyond their careers in the music industry, Blanco and Gomez seem to bond over their shared love of cooking. Gomez plays the lead role alone Emmy-nominated daytime cooking show, Selena + Chef, while Blanco entertains fans with his deliciously wacky cooking videos on social media. Now Blanco is releasing a cookbook called Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends on April 30th.
“I like things that look hard but are actually quite simple,” he tells the magazine about his cooking style. “I just love entertaining people and bringing them joy.” Doesn’t everyone want to be taken care of, be it your friend, a lover or your family? Doesn’t it feel good when someone does something to you?
Earlier this montha source gushed to ET that Blanco and Gomez’s loved ones are excited about their relationship.
The source shared that the singer’s “friends and family love Benny and his loved ones feel the same about her.”
“Everyone can see that they have a loving relationship and both parties couldn’t be more encouraging,” the source noted of the couple’s close circle.
According to the source, Gomez and Blanco have “become very serious” in recent days.
“Selena trusts him more than any other previous romantic partner in her life,” the source said. “They treat each other very respectfully and their relationship develops positively.”
The duo, the source said, feel like they “bring out the best in each other and strive to be communicative, honest and mutually supportive.”
“They express their opinions, appreciate each other’s art and encourage each other,” the source noted. “They both see a positive future together and have a desire to move forward and allow their relationship to thrive.”
Gomez and Blanco confirmed their romance in December after months of speculation. Then, in February, the “Love On” singer opened up about their “beautiful” relationship.
“Without going into too much detail, I think it’s just really important to meet someone who respects you,” Gomez said an interview with Zane Lowe. “And I think it’s really nice to be able to rely on someone who understands the world in which I live. But overall I have to say it’s the safest thing I feel and it’s been really nice and I’ve only grown from it. “It’s great.”
