Delhi Capitals (DC) have suffered a major blow ahead of their match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Star batter David Warner and pacer Ishant Sharma have been ruled out of the game against the five-way champions of the tournament, director of cricket Sourav Ganguly confirmed.
David Warner and Ishant Sharma are struggling with their fitness in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Both players missed some games for the team and their absence was quite evident as the team lost some crucial games of the tournament.
David Warner suffered a thumb injury against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and subsequently missed a few games for the team. He returned for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but missed the next game against the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The batsman is yet to reach full fitness and will not feature against Mumbai Indians.
In the absence of David Warner, Delhi Capitals played Shai Hope in the last game. The move did not work well as the West Indies batsman posted a low score. However, thanks to skipper Rishabh Pant’s (88*) heroics with the bat, the team posted a high total and won the game.
On the other hand, Ishant Sharma had problems with his back. The lanky pacer suffered a back spasm and missed Delhi Capitals’ last two games against SRH and GT. He is also not fully fit yet and will therefore miss the game against Mumbai Indians.
Ishant Sharma’s absence has resulted in Delhi Capitals testing a few players with the ball. In the last game they offer Rasikh Salam a chance. Although the pacer gave away few runs, he picked up three wickets and helped his team win the game.
The Delhi Capitals are currently in 6th place in the points table with 4 wins from 9 games. The Rishabh Pant-led side wants to win their final games in IPL 2024 and secure a place in the playoffs. With David Warner and Ishant Sharma missing, it will be a big challenge for the team.
Axar is safe in the World Cup, Rishabh and Kuldeep should be there – Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly spoke about the possibility of Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav making it to the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He believes the trio should board the plane to the US and the Caribbean as they will be vital to the World Cup team. Speaking to reporters, he claimed:
“Axar is safe at the World Cup. Rishabh and Kuldeep should be there. He can bat at number 8 and beat the spinners in the middle overs with the bat. These Axar and Jadejas are talented.”
The Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 is expected to be announced next week. It remains to be seen who will make the team. It will not be a surprise if Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav are selected.
