Even 9-1-1 Oliver Stark have to agree that his character meets Evan “Buck” Buckley for the first time Ryan Guzmans Eddie Diaz had some – let’s say more than platonic – undertones.

“I think that’s probably a pretty smart way to look at it,” Stark, 32, shared in a clip from the upcoming Tuesday, April 30, episode of the “I’ve Never Said That Before” podcast while speaking after the Introduction of the duo was asked. “Eddie and Ryan [Guzman]Whoever plays him is obviously an attractive man, I can tell.”

Stark was referring to the first episode of season two when Eddie first came to Firehouse 118, much to Buck’s chagrin. When Buck’s attention is drawn to the new member of his team, he slowly turns around and sees Eddie shirtless while Salt-N-Pepa’s “Whatta Man” plays in the background. For many, it’s a moment that was the first sign of Buck’s bisexuality and the start of the fan-favorite relationship – affectionately known as “Buddie” – that fans have hoped would turn romantic ever since.

“The introduction of [Eddie’s] The character is literally Buck spinning in slow motion and “Whatta Man” is the soundtrack playing. So I think when we look back on that moment, there’s definitely an element [of sexual undertone]Stark joked. “And then, not knowing how to handle and process those feelings, he clearly divided them into a kind of jealousy and insecurity about himself.”

9-1-1’s Evan “Buck” Buckley and Eddie Diaz have been a beloved duo since the show’s second season – some fans are even hoping their friendship will become something more. Buck and Eddie, portrayed by Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman respectively, became fast friends after Eddie joined the 118 in Season 2 […]

However, Stark noted that other factors also played a role in the couple’s initial tension. “Buck was the young, eager action hero who could do anything,” he said. “And then suddenly there was Eddie, who could do everything he could, but was also a single dad and an Army veteran and embodied all of these cool things.”

The two have, of course, become best friends over the last six seasons – but Stark admitted that exploiting Buck’s insecurities over Eddie also had its benefits. “It was fun to play along because obviously I felt like, ‘Who the hell is this new guy on the show?'” Stark quipped.

Buck recently came out as bisexual 9-1-1 100th episode following his first same-sex kiss with LAFD helicopter pilot Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.). Although Buck’s focus seems to be on Tommy for now, the two even have plans to take care of Buck’s sister Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and chimney (Kenneth Choi) Wedding in the upcoming May 2 episode – Buck’s desperation for Eddie’s attention has raised eyebrows about where Buck’s true attraction lies.

Stark, for his part, is open to the BFFs taking things to the next level. “You know, there’s obviously something there and the chemistry between us is there,” he shared on the Friday, April 19, episode The Zach Sang Show. “Yeah, if it goes there, I think it would be like that [something I would do].”

Of course, what happens also depends on Eddie’s character, who has still only dated women since season 7. Stark said there’s a fine line to walk if you want to properly tell queer storylines.

“I think you have to be careful because I don’t want to tell this story where [a] The guy comes out and now all his guy friends are like, ‘Oh, what’s your crush on me?'” he explained. “I want to be careful telling this story.”

Guzman had said it before Us weekly exclusively that he’s there for whatever the ABC drama wants to do when it comes to Buck and Eddie’s relationship – as long as it retains what makes it special.

“I think the sacredness of that vulnerability [between Buck and Eddie] “That’s what needs to be maintained and the connection,” Guzman said Us earlier this month. “Whatever happens when Buck finds out if he wants to explore that route [with his sexuality] Whether further or not, this connection remains.”

As for fans’ passion for the dynamic, Guzman said he couldn’t blame them.

“I think audiences particularly love these two characters because of how competitive they are,” he explained, noting that the duo “mirrored” each other in many ways when Guzman first joined the cast in Season 2. “And to show the development of both characters and [them] I think that vulnerability, the ability to lean on each other in the worst moments, has brought them closer and closer, so that now the audience empathizes with that relationship in a way.”
