Tata Motors, the popular Indian automaker known for making sturdy cars, is planning to launch four new SUVs in India this year. This new vehicle range includes two internal combustion engine SUVs (ICE) and two electric vehicles (EV). Now let’s look at the details of each launch.
Curvv EV
With its coupe SUV design, the Tata Curvv EV will be unique and a unique offering in the segment. For those who don’t know, coupe SUVs have a sloping roofline similar to coupes while offering the high ground clearance and practicality of an SUV. Tata Motors has confirmed that the car will be launched in FY24-25. We can expect it to launch between July and September.
The Curvv EV will be launched in multiple variants, including a long-range variant that can travel up to 500 km on a single charge and a medium-range variant that offers a slightly shorter range. With an expected starting price of around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom), it aims to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles in India.
Harrier EV
The brand will also launch the electric version of its flagship five-seater SUV. The Harrier EV is based on the Acti.EV platform and could offer a range of over 500 km on a single charge. The overall design remains the same as the ICE Harrier, with EV-specific changes such as a closed grille and aero alloy wheels.
The electric vehicle will feature bi-directional charging and DC fast charging support, adding to both practicality and environmental friendliness. The Harrier EV could be equipped with a large 60 kWh battery. Apart from the Harrier EV, Tata will also launch the Safari EV with similar specifications.
Curvv ICE
The Curvv will be launched in both EV and ICE variants. The production-ready ICE variant of the coupe SUV was unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. Powered by new 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines similar to the Nexon, this SUV will directly compete with popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and others. The design will be similar to the Curvv EV and will feature a tall stance and sloping roofline.
Punch facelift
Tata launched the Punch SUV in the Indian market in 2021. Since then, the car has not received a facelift. However, the same test mules were spotted several times. The brand has confirmed that the facelifted version could launch sometime in 2025.
The facelifted Punch gets an exterior and interior makeover in line with Tata’s latest SUV range. The design of the revised Punch ICE is inspired by the Punch EV launched this year. The Tata Punch is a micro SUV that competes with Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
