2025 Mazda CX-80: New SUV Teased Ahead of Upcoming Reveal

The completely new Mazda CX-80 The company confirmed that the three-row SUV will be unveiled on April 18.

The CX-80 is said to be the fourth model based on Mazda’s premium-oriented Large Architecture platform. It’s been touted with a cropped view of the rear section – which, unsurprisingly, looks like the related CX-60 and CX-90 models.

Although details are few, Mazda has confirmed that the CX-80 will be “nearly five meters long” and have a wheelbase of over three meters.

For reference, the CX-60 is 4740mm long and has a 2870mm wheelbase, while the CX-90 is 5120mm long and has a 3120mm wheelbase.

“The CX-80 is longer, taller and has a significantly longer wheelbase than the popular CX-60,” says Mazda’s media release.

Other confirmed features for the new Mazda SUV include Mazda Connected Services and the option of a three-seat rear seat or a two-seat second row with captain’s chairs and a center console.

It also appears that the teaser images show a car in the brand’s new Artisan Red, a darker variant of the brand’s signature Soul Red.

Further details will be revealed when the Mazda CX-80 is unveiled in Europe on April 18 at 8pm AEST – stay tuned CarExpert for our reporting.

While Mazda Australia has already confirmed that the CX-80 will be available in local showrooms, it’s unclear exactly when we can expect the spiritual successor to the now-defunct CX-8 to arrive Down Under.

The smaller CX-60 and larger CX-90 both launched in the second half of 2023, and the Japanese brand has already confirmed the launch of the large five-seat CX-70 in Australia in late 2024.

Given that the CX-70 was introduced just two months ago, the CX-80 shouldn’t be far behind. Expect it to land in Australia either very late in 2024 or early 2025.

Mazda’s premium positioning for its Large Architecture products should mean the CX-80 can compete with everything from high-spec versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento to lower-spec versions of the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90.

When the Mazda CX-80 goes on sale, it is expected to offer versions of the 3.3-liter inline-six gasoline and diesel engines with 48V mild hybrid technology that it shares with other members of the Large Architecture family shares, as well as a 2.5 liter engine. Liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid option.

Unlike the CX-70 and CX-90, which are larger, wide-body SUVs aimed at the North American market, the CX-80 will be more of a stretched version of the CX-70 with a slimmer body, which is more suitable for Japan Europe.

It’s a similar approach to the brand’s previous generation of SUVs, where the CX-8 was more of a stretched, slim-bodied CX-5 to cater to the Japanese and European markets, while the larger CX-9 North America was oriented.
