Family disputes, police version of events

According to a Press Trust of India (PTI) report, Thapan’s mother, Rita Devi, filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday, May 3. The petition also seeks several pieces of evidence from the police, including CCTV footage of the police station and jail where Thapan was held, as well as call data records (CDR) of police officers involved in the investigation of the shooting incident (from April 24 to May) . 2) and another post-mortem on Thapan’s body.

Background of the case

Four people, including Thapan, were arrested in connection with the shooting at Salman Khan’s residence on April 14. The others arrested are Sonu Bishnoi and suspected shooters Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi are still wanted in the case.

Thapan was arrested in Punjab on April 26 on charges of supplying firearms and ammunition for the shooting. He remained in police custody until April 30. The police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crimes Act (MCOCA) in this case. On April 29, all four accused, including Thapan, were produced before a special court and remanded in police custody until May 8. However, Thapan was found dead in the prison toilet on May 1.

The Supreme Court has yet to schedule a hearing on the petition.
