While we’d love to see a 3 hatchback become a reality, that seems unlikely

Tesla recently confirmed that it is working on cheaper electric vehicles, and while it did not specify whether this includes the long-rumored Model 2, this news has excited many, including the brand’s shareholders. Despite this week’s negative Q1 results, shareholders gave the company a thumbs up and sent share prices higher upon learning of the news.
Well, here’s an idea; Imagine if this affordable car was a hatchback version of the Model 3.

To be clear, as previously mentioned, Tesla has given no indication of what form this car might take. For all we know, it could end up being a stripped-down 3 (as some analysts have recently suggested).
However, to give us an idea of what the new Model 3 might look like as a sedan, talented designer Theottle has created this compelling creation. And let me tell you, we wish the Model 3 had been a sedan and not a sedan all along.

The slim shape of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta serves as the basis for this creation. Its rear half was grafted onto the Tesla before the Alfa’s signature elements were removed and replaced with parts from the Model 3, such as its more modern LED taillights. In addition, the side windows were changed and various parts of the new Model 3 Performance were installed. This includes the diffuser and wheels, complete with removable aero caps.
There are some obvious similarities between the shape of the Model 3 hatch pictured and the current Mazda3 hatchback, which remains, in this writer’s eyes, one of the nicest hatches on the market.
If Tesla ever builds a hatchback version of the Model 3, it would almost certainly sell in lower numbers than the sedan. However, it could certainly help the automaker increase sales of its current entry-level model with the relatively small investment required to develop it, while also providing a very strong option in markets outside the US, such as Europe.
However, since neither the brand nor Elon Musk have ever expressed much interest in a Model 3 hatch, we don’t expect it to see the light of day.
