The Chennai Super Kings don’t like to tinker too much with their playing XI. Over the years, the Chennai-based team has developed a reputation for playing with a consistent unit throughout the season and making few changes to the team composition.
Therefore, some players find it difficult to break into the playing eleven. In the past we have seen that many players, including some big names, had to fight with the team for a chance in the CSK. And one player who suffered a similar fate this season is New Zealand star Mitchell Santner.
With Ravindra Jadeja in the team, the left-arm spinner hasn’t really managed to cement his place in the CSK player list despite being with the franchise since 2018. So far he has only played 16 games for the five-time champions. Things have only gotten worse for him in the current competition as he was unable to play in CSK’s first ten games.
The New Zealand star finally got a game in the IPL 2024 last Sunday when CSK took on the Punjab Kings. He made an immediate impression at CSK. He opened the bowling in the powerplay and conceded just ten runs in his three overs while taking the big wicket of Shashank Singh.
Mitchell Santner frustrated:
Although Mitchell Santner is hoping to play in CSK’s remaining games this season after his good performance against PBKS, he admitted that he was frustrated due to lack of playing opportunities. Santner explained that he tries his best to stay focused and help his teammates when he is not playing. Santner also emphasized that the team’s success is his top priority.
“Yeah, I guess that’s the challenge of not playing all the time. It might be frustrating at times, but I think it’s about staying focused when you’re not playing. What I try to do is help the other guys, whether that’s at practice or during the game and even have conversations with people,” Santner said on CSK’s official website.
“And then when you get your chance, I think it’s about not letting the team down, but making sure you’re ready for it whenever it comes. It’s such a long tournament. So if it’s just two games, I’ll do it.” “I’ll do my best in these two games and if it gets cooler, if not, I’m happy that for me it’s all about the team’s success.” he added.
Meanwhile, CSK defeated PBKS by 28 runs to move to the third position in the points table. They have won six of their 11 games so far and are on their way to the playoffs. The reigning champions will face Rajasthan Royals in their next game on Sunday.
