Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh spoke about the key player to feature for Team India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that No. 1 T20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav has to perform for the team because he can change the game in 15 balls.
The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be another opportunity for the Indian cricket team to end its title drought and secure the ICC title after 10 long years. The mega event will take place in June this year across the United States of America and the Caribbean.
As the deadline for announcing the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is May 1, it is expected that the Indian team for the tournament is likely to be announced in the coming week. The core Indian players have performed well in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and the management hopes that they maintain their form.
Players like Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah maintain excellent contact in the league. Going into the 2024 World Cup with strong form will be a huge advantage for the team.
With the team announcement just around the corner, Yuvraj Singh believes Suryakumar Yadav will be India’s key player. He also believes that on the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal will also be the crucial cogs of the team. Speaking to ICC, he explained:
“Suryakumar Yadav (is India’s key player). Because of his style of play, he can change the character of a game in 15 balls. And he is definitely a guarantee…for India to win this T20 World Cup, Surya will be the winner.” Key.
“I think Jasprit Bumrah is also key to the bowling and I would also like to see a leg-spinner in the squad like Yuzvendra Chahal as he bowls really well. But as a batsman, I would say Suryakumar Yadav (is the key player).”
Suryakumar Yadav was in a class of his own in the T20 years. It’s fair to say that no one is close to him when it comes to the shortest format of the game. He has also been in golden touch in the IPL and has hit two half-centuries so far.
I would like to see Shivam Dube in Yuvraj Singh’s India left-arm squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup
Yuvraj Singh also spoke about India’s left field selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He believes Shivam Dube should be in the squad and can be a game-changer for the team in the tournament. He highlighted CSK’s batting form in IPL 2024. He explained:
“I would like to see Shivam Dube in the squad. He has been in and out of the (Indian) team but this IPL he has batted very well and he is someone who can change the game. There are a lot of those from other guys who have been playing for a while, but I would like to see Shivam Dube in the mix.
Shivam Dube has destroyed the spinners in the ongoing IPL 2024. He was the main reason for Chennai Super Kings’ success in the tournament. The batsman has scored 311 runs at a strike rate of 170 in just 8 games.
