T20 World Cup 2024: Mitchell Marsh Drops Bombshell Revelation About His Availability for Australia

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh, captain of Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, has confirmed that his recovery from a hamstring injury is going as planned.

Mitchell Marsh was originally scheduled to play the entire 2024 Indian Premier League season for Delhi Capitals, but his hamstring injury ruled him out. The 32-year-old was expected to play a key role for the Capitals but he only left for Australia after four games against Punjab, Rajasthan, Chennai and Kolkata.

What did Mitchell Marsh say about his hamstring injury?

On April 3, Mitchell Marsh played his last game for Delhi Capitals during their heavy 106-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in Vishakhapatnam. After that game, Marsh suffered a sore hamstring and was rested for a few games before being sent back to Perth for further treatment.

A few weeks after returning home, Mitchell Marsh confirmed to DC management that his recovery from the hamstring injury would take much longer than he had thought. As a result, the Capitals confirmed that Marsh would not be returning to India for the Premier League, before naming Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib as his replacement.

Earlier today, Mitchell Marsh took some time to speak with ESPN and gave an important update on his hamstring injury. The 32-year-old admitted his recovery is now going as planned and is on track, just as he and the Australian team management had wanted.

Marsh said it would take at least another two to three weeks for the injury to fully heal, but claimed the timing of the World Cup was good enough for him to recover in time. The new Australian captain also hoped that he will not suffer an unprecedented setback ahead of the Champions 2021 T20 World Cup 2024 opening match against Oman on June 6 in Barbados.

“The hammy is good, it’s coming along really well. It’s pretty much exactly where we want it. It’s one of those things. I just need to get it done in the next three weeks and get on a plane. If we had to.’ If I play tomorrow, I’m still in trouble for a few weeks and the timing is probably perfect unless there are setbacks. – Mitchell Marsh told ESPN Australia.

A golden opportunity for Mitchell Marsh coming up in the T20 World Cup

The upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies will give Mitchell Marsh the opportunity to become the second Australian captain to win the title. He was part of the Australian team that won its first World Cup in the shortest format in 2021 under the leadership of Aaron Finch.

In the final against New Zealand, Marsh shone with 77 out of 50 and was also named man of the match. Furthermore, the all-rounder, along with most of his Australian teammates, has a chance to complete the ICC Trophy treble while becoming world champions in all formats.

Mitchell Marsh is not only aiming for his first ICC silverware as captain, but also his fourth overall title after the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2015 and 2023 ICC Cricket World Cups.
