KL Rahul is likely to be named ahead of Sanju Samson in the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to the reports in PTI, it is known that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) star will have to wait for his chance again and is expected to act as a substitute for the team in the tournament.
The wicket-keeper position in the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024 has got everyone excited. Many players have signed up for this role. However, as per the reports, Rishabh Pant has been selected as the first choice wicketkeeper in the team for the event.
The Delhi Capitals skipper has shown great form in IPL 2024 and is the third-highest run-getter in the tournament with 342 runs. His best score came in the team’s last match against Gujarat Titans where he scored an unbeaten 88 runs to take his team home at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
While Pant will be the first choice goalkeeper in the team, the competition for the second goalkeeper in the team remains between KL Rahul and Sanju Samson in the team. It is learned that the Lucknow Super Giants captain may get the nod ahead of the Rajasthan Royals captain.
Both Sanju Samson and KL Rahul have batted tremendously well in the ongoing IPL 2024. While the LSG skipper scored 302 runs at a strike rate of 141, Samson has scored 314 runs at a strike rate of 152. The final decision will be taken when captain Rohit Sharma meets chairman of selection Ajit Agarkar in Delhi.
As per the reports, there was also a competition between Avesh Khan, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi for the sixth bowler in the team. The selectors will take into account the slow elevation changes in the Caribbean and will make the decision.
One of them will join Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. The BCCI is keen on adding an additional bowler to the team as the form of the other bowlers, apart from Bumrah and Kuldeep, is not great and they want a replacement for them.
Hardik Pandya gets selected for T20 World Cup 2024 despite poor form – reports
The reports also claimed that Hardik Pandya is likely to be selected for the team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. This is because the BCCI voters have no alternative in his place and despite his poor form, he is likely to board the plane to the USA. However, his form is worrying voters.
Hardik Pandya seemed to be in poor form with both bat and ball in IPL 2024. The all-rounder bowled a total of 17 overs and was unable to fire with the bat. The voters are of the opinion that while Shivam Dube was exceptionally good with the bat in IPL 2024, the CSK all-rounder is nowhere near Hardik’s in terms of bowling.
According to the reports, both Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube were supposed to board the flight to the US. As the deadline for announcing the squad for the World Cup is May 1, BCCI is expected to announce the squad between the end of this week and early next week.
