South African Women’s Open: Rosie Davies Takes an Early Lead at Six Under Par in the Opening Round

England’s Rosie Davies shot six under par in the first round of 66 to share the lead at the Investec South African Women’s Open in Cape Town.

After a bogey the first time, Davies bounced back with three straight birdies.

Although the 34-year-old missed another shot in the seventh game, she collected another five shots on the back nine and, together with Switzerland’s Elena Moosmann, took the lead in the clubhouse.

“Some say the best rounds start with a bogey!” joked Davies.

“We definitely had better weather conditions in the morning.

“It was nice and calm on the front nine, so I thought if I can get a few while everyone is fighting the wind in the afternoon, it will give me a little advantage.”

“I made the putts well, it was good. The golf course is breathtaking. It’s probably in the best condition we’ve played in on tour. The greens are perfect, the view. South Africa is incredible. We love coming here.”
