Sophia Bush is ready to share new details about her relationship with the football player Ashlyn Harris. In her self-written shine In the cover story published on Thursday, April 25, Sophia, 41, recalled the moment her friendship with Ashlyn, 38, became something more.
It started in the summer of 2023 when the actress got separated and planned to file for divorce Grant Hughes.
“Groups of women in my life began opening up about the struggles they were going through in their own homes,” Sophia wrote. “It felt like every week there were more of us there, including Ashlyn, who I had first met in 2019 and who was figuring out her own separation from her wife.”
In August 2023, Sophia officially filed to end her marriage to Grant. A month later, Ashlyn filed for divorce Ali Warrior after almost four years of marriage.
In her essay, Sophia assured readers that there was no fraud. Instead, she simply viewed Ashlyn as a friend with a “big, happy life.” But as the couple continued to speak openly about their split, things began to change.
“I had to deal with a lot of things, what felt like countless therapy sessions and some prodding from loved ones, but I finally asked Ashlyn to talk to a non-friend group,” Sophia said. “And that meal lasted four and a half hours and was truly one of the most surreal experiences of my life so far.”
Sophia and Ashlyn made their first public appearance as a couple at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s annual Oscars party in March 2024. While the “Work in Progress” podcast host received support from friends and family, some members of the public were not so friendly .
“The people watching from the outside did not realize how much time it took and how many painful conversations were had,” she wrote. “It seemed like seconds after I started to see what was in front of me and the internet rumor mill started churning in the ugliest way possible. There were blatant lies. Violent threats. There were allegations of being a homewrecker. Those who said I dumped my ex because I suddenly realized I wanted to be with women – my partners have known what I was into for so long (so that’s not it, y’all, sorry!) . ”
While Sophia said she hates the idea of having to come out in 2024, the actress explained that she’s always known that “my sexuality exists on a spectrum.”
“Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer,” she continued. “Actually, I can’t say it without smiling. And that feels pretty awesome.”
