SNL Recap: Ryan Gosling Reworks Taylor Swift Song About Barbie and Ken

Ryan Gosling is no longer “just Ken” and is ready to hang up his rollerblades for good.

“It’s great to be hosting here again SNL. I’m here for my new movie, The Guy case with Emily Blunt. “So don’t worry: I’m not going to joke about Ken because it’s not funny,” Gosling, 43, joked in his comment Saturday Night Live Monologue on Saturday, April 13th. “Ken and I, we had to break up [because] We went too deep and it’s over, so I won’t talk about it.”

He continued: “I’m actually going to talk about it a little bit. I have to do that because, you know, when you play a character so hard [for] For so long, letting go just feels like a breakup. And when it comes to dealing with a breakup, there’s only one thing that really helps: the music of the greats Taylor Swift.”

Gosling, who will play Ken in 2023 Barbie earned him an Oscar nomination earlier this year, sat down at a grand piano and began playing a Ken-centric rendition of Swift’s “All Too Well.”

“I shredded Venice Beach, it’s true / My clothes were tight, but something about that spandex felt so right,” Gosling sang, adapting the original lyrics to fit Barbie Storylines. “I left my rollerblades in this big pink house / But I still got this fur coat and I’m going to wear it now.”

He continued to belt out, “Oh, that sweet definition of my washboard abs / Singing in the car with Babs in front of Indigo Girls.” If I said I was fine I’d be lying ’cause I was just Ken and now I’m just Ryan .”

Gosling’s musical monologue was soon interrupted by 41-year-old Blunt herself, who asked why she was doing it Fall Guy Costar was fixated Barbie instead of promoting their upcoming action film.

Blunt tried to suppress Gosling’s song, but he just couldn’t continue.

“Cause here we are again, on this Technicolor beach / I didn’t win the Oscar / It was just out of reach,” Gosling sang. “I’ve been there, bleach blonde hair / Now it’s time to wish Fit Ken farewell.”

Blunt reluctantly agreed to say goodbye to her role in Oppenheimerthe 2023 Oscar-winning epic about the creation of the atomic bomb.

Blunt wasn’t the only surprise guest to appear on Saturday’s episode. Former SNL cast member and Gosling’s Barbie Costar Kate McKinnon returned to the cold open and performed her “Close Encounter” role in front of the college basketball star. Caitlin Clark appeared on “Weekend Update” to discuss the WNBA Draft. Chris Stapletonwho was the episode’s musical guest, also appeared in a country-inspired lyrical skit with Gosling and the others SNL pour.
