Why Brooke Shields’ College-age Daughters Sleep in Bed with Her

Brooke Shields“Two daughters are young adults. But for her, it will always be her babies. Case in point: She’s not willing to watch them go out alone. And whenever her husband goes out of town, it’s definitely a good time for a cozy occasion with them.

The 58-year-old actress made an appearance SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham and shared the tidbit while talking about how difficult it was watching her daughters — Rowan, 20, and Grier, 18 — grow up so quickly. Like Grier, who just turned 18.

“Well, I mean, my little daughter just turned 18. You know, the moment my husband is on a business trip or away or something, they still sleep in bed with me,” Shields revealed. “We still watch romantic comedies. They’re my babies, you know, and they never will be.”

Shields, who shares her daughters with husband Chris Henchy, realized that art actually imitates life. She compared the role in her upcoming romantic comedy: Mother of the bridewith what she is now struggling with in real life.

“I think the beauty of the movie is that it’s really this moment where her heart is still with mom, still loves mom, but she’s going into her new life and it’s very bittersweet,” Shields said. “You know, you’re happy for her, but your baby is already grown and it’s just heartbreaking.”

Rowan left for college not long ago, and soon Grier will do the same. It’s an idea that Shields finds difficult to grasp as she watches her second daughter move out.

“I’ve avoided thinking about it because people would say to me, ‘Oh, you’re going to be so relieved,’ and I just can’t imagine it happening,” she said. “I don’t think that will happen. I thought, ‘Well, they’ll still come back,’ and besides, the cost of living in this city alone is so prohibitive that it might work in my favor.”

The high cost of living in New York City could work in her favor, she quipped.

“Maybe I’ll start charging them rent,” she added. “That might be a good idea.”

Nearly two years ago, Shields teared up when she shared on social media that Rowan would be returning to Wake Forest University in Salem, North Carolina, for her sophomore year.

“I just had to wave goodbye to my daughter again” she told the camera through a few colds.

“I thought it would be easier the second time because she was already gone and with me all summer, but…” she adds, pausing to take a deep breath.

“I don’t ride with her, she rides with her dad,” Shields explained, “but she takes my car, which was my graduation car. It was just too painful, I don’t think I can get through driving away from campus again.”
