Ryan Gosling Reveals His Daughter’s Nickname for Emily Blunt

Ryan Goslings Daughters have a special nickname for Emily Blunt – and it’s a throwback to one of her most famous film roles.

“My children are calling [Emily] Mary Poppins,” Gosling, 43, revealed on the Tuesday, April 23, episode Today show. “They ask, ‘Are you working with Mary Poppins today?’ Yes, yes, I am.”

Blunt, 41 – who played the title role of the magical nanny in 2018 Mary Poppins returns – and Gosling both have two daughters of the same age with their respective partners: Blunt and husband John Krasinski are parents of Hazel (9) and Violet (7) and Gosling and long-term partner Eva Mendes Share Esmerelda, 9, and Amada, 7.

According to Blunt, her little one’s admiration goes both ways. She shared that her daughters “love” Gosling very much, especially for his role as Ken in the hit summer 2023 blockbuster Barbie.

“Actually, my eldest [Violet] — It’s the first film she’s expressed interest in and it has nothing to do with me. It’s all about Ryan,” she joked. However, when Gosling replied that it was more about “Ken, really,” Blunt had to agree.

“It’s Ken,” she admitted. “They are fascinated by what his hair looks like in real life. That was a question I was asked a lot.” (Gosling famously bleached his hair platinum blonde for the role.)

Gosling and Blunt co-star in the upcoming film The Guy case, which hits theaters on May 3rd. The film follows battle-hardened stuntman Colt Seavers (Gosling) as he returns to the entertainment industry when the star of a major studio film suddenly disappears. Blunt portrays his ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno, who also happens to be the director of the film Colt appeared in.

Although Gosling’s own nickname for Blunt is “Emily Stunty Blunt,” he said Entertainment tonight on Tuesday that the actress has an innate whimsical element similar to her 2018 character.

“She just brings, you know, she brings that blunt force, she brings the magic, she’s just Mary Poppins,” he explained. “And take whatever it is out of her bag. She rises from heaven, she conjures up all the tricks in her acting bag, she does magic. Then she goes off to help other people on other films and you wonder, ‘Was that real?'”

Blunt, on the other hand, has great respect for Gosling’s talent.

“I could actually write a sort of laundry list of things that I admire and adore about Ryan,” she said AND. I think he’s an absolutely unique talent and he’s the best and he’s endlessly funny and incredibly smart and kind…You’re the kindest.”

Although Blunt and Gosling are clearly good friends, they poked fun at their 2023 films. Oppenheimer And Barbie, which competed at the box office last summer while presenting at the Oscars in March. (Both were nominated for the Academy Awards in the “Best Supporting Actor” category, but Emma Stone and blunts Oppenheimer Costar Cillian Murphy took home the victories.)

“I’m just glad we can finally put this ‘Barbenheimer’ rivalry aside,” Gosling told Blunt onstage, to which Blunt quipped, “The way this awards season has played out, it hasn’t been that big of a rivalry.” Lass Just let it go!”

“That’s true. You’re doing very well, you know? congratulationsGosling replied Christopher Nolan’s Atomic bomb biopic, which ultimately won best film that evening. “But I think I’ve somehow figured out why it’s called ‘Barbenheimer’ and not ‘Oppenarbie.’ You’re at the end because you went along for the ride Barbies Coattails all summer.”
