Realizing that you no longer have control of the car you are driving is one of the worst feelings imaginable. However, experiencing this feeling from the driver’s seat new A Porsche 911 GT3 RS, available from $241,300 (good luck finding one for that price as we’ve seen examples closer to half a million), takes that feeling to a whole new level, especially when watching a river approach quickly.

That was the harrowing experience someone in Washington state recently had when the 911 GT3 RS they were driving careened into the Snoqualmie River. Photos that have surfaced on Facebook and Reddit show temporary license plates on the car at the time of the accident, suggesting the driver had recently purchased the vehicle and was likely waiting for permanent registration and plates.

While the circumstances that led to the crash remain a mystery (we have reached out to the authors and will update this post as soon as they get back to us), images of the aftermath that appeared on a Facebook Group show that the 911 GT3 RS was completely submerged in the river. Fortunately, one of the photographers, Jason Rich, reports that the driver was fine, although he suffered a blow to the head.

Considering what the special track-specific vehicle looked like after being recovered from the river, the driver was lucky to make it out alive. From the dry we can see that the Porsche sustained significant damage to the front and lost its driver’s side wheel and fender.

In addition, the 911 GT3 RS also suffered damage to the rear. The bodywork above the rear wheel is so deformed that the fender touches the tire. Part of the rear wing also appears to have broken off in the accident.

Unfortunately, things don’t look promising for the Porsche, as extracting it from the river appeared to be quite a challenge. Because the car fell into the water in an unexpected place, it had to be towed over some large boulders, which may have caused even more damage.

While it’s a shame to see a dream car end up in the river like this, it’s a sobering reminder that high-performance machines deserve respect. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS’s 518 hp (386 kW / 525 hp) naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine is a lot to handle, especially on public roads, although for all we know the driver may have an incident or something else
