The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set May 1 as the deadline for all cricket associations to announce their squads T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the USA and West Indies this year. As anticipation and speculation grows among fans about India’s squad for the tournament, numerous cricket experts, former players and sports commentators have expressed their opinions and recommendations on the kind of squad the BCCI should put together for this prestigious T20 cricket event .
They were joined by former Indian cricketer and current member of Star Sports’ Hindi commentary panel for the IIndian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Navjot Singh Sidhuhas presented his findings on this topic.
Navjot Singh Sidhu’s top advice to Rahul Dravid
During the #AskStar segment on Star Sports, Sidhu responded to a fan’s question about what suggestion he would give to India’s head coach: Rahul Dravid, to end the Indian cricket team’s 11-year trophy drought. Sidhu stressed that if Dravid aims for Team India to secure the title, the board needs to form a team comprising five specialist bowlers who are capable of taking wickets. He stressed that his advice was straightforward and urged Dravid not to compromise on the team’s bowling unit while selecting the squad.
“My immediate advice to Rahul Dravid is that if you want to win this tournament, you simply have five bowlers who specialize in taking wickets. The breakdown of a team’s character arises from the compromise column. Your character takes a hit when you compromise. They have three spinners – Bishnoi, Kuldeep and Jadeja picks himself. And play three fast bowlers.” Sidhu said on Star Sports’ #AskStar segment.
Sidhu later named pacers to be included in India’s squad for the World Cup. He named Mayank Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohsin Khan, And Mukesh Kumar as India’s potential representative in the tournament.
“Mayank Yadav, when he is fit, goes aside. Khaleel Ahmed, Mohsin Khan. And Delhi Capitals have Mukesh Kumar. I feel like the Indian team has so many options that if they take wicket bowlers and don’t compromise, they think this guy can bat a bit and bowl a bit. These little things” explained the 60-year-old.

BCCI to announce Indian squad soon
According to reports, the selectors are led by Ajit Agarkarwill meet with the Indian head coach and captain, Rohit Sharma, next weekend to discuss and finalize the T20 World Cup squad ahead of its official announcement. This development means that the huge anticipation among fans of the Indian cricket team over the squad selection for the epic tournament will soon come to an end.
