Marvel Rivals Release Date Speculation, Trailers, Platforms and Everything We Know

Superhero games have had a tough time lately, with both Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and Marvel’s Avengers failing to hold fans’ attention for long. Marvel Rivals aims to change that, bringing the Overwatch-style gameplay that many know and love.

If that’s piqued your interest, we’ll be revealing everything about the game soon, including information about the Marvel Rivals release date, trailers, platforms, and other interesting details.

Is there a release date for Marvel Rivals?

Marvel Rivals does not currently have a full game release date There will be a pre-alpha test in May 2024.

However, Rivals is expected to release in 2025 if all goes well with the alpha, and any subsequent betas as they come to fruition. If we were to assume a full release window, we would probably assume Q1 2025, as the game is already in an alpha-ready state and from here on out it’s all about balancing and optimizations to the core of the game.

Marvel Rivals trailer

Technically, only one trailer was released for Marvel Rivals – the announcement trailer. While it’s just an “announcement” and not the usual 360-degree camera show that shows some nice pictures and a cliffhanger reveal of the characters, there’s a whole lot of information that needs to be broken down.

You’re shown almost two minutes of pure gameplay, giving you a wide variety of characters paired with a range of their abilities so you know what they’re all about. Take a look for yourself below and prepare to get seriously hyped.

There are also a few other videos that have gone live on the official Marvel Rivals YouTube channel, but these focus more on the cards and deeper looks at the roster, so aren’t technically trailers. Read on for more information about it!

Marvel Rivals platforms

The only platform Marvel Rivals has been officially announced on is PC. This is a bit surprising considering that a game of this nature is sure to be a hit on consoles, but luckily console owners don’t have to worry too much because it looks like it could be in the works.

As the team states on the official Marvel Rivals Discord, they are “actively exploring potential releases on other platforms” and the Steam release will be the game’s “first stop.” It definitely looks like PC will be the launch platform for Rivals, but will venture elsewhere after that.

This is also supported by recent rumors that both PS5 and Xbox code references are hidden on the Marvel Rivals website, strongly suggesting that a console release is imminent.

What is the Marvel Rivals heroes list?

Hulk from Marvel Rivals

One of the most important parts of a game similar to Overwatch with its hero-based character selection is the picklist. This is especially true when dealing with Marvel superheroes, as there are both fan favorites and simply powerful beings that most want to control.

Luckily, Marvel Rivals will feature characters from across the universe, meaning the choices are diverse. Here are all the announced heroes that will be available in the game, based on the official statements from the creators and what we could find in the announcement trailer:

  • Black Panther
  • Bruce Banner/Hulk
  • Doctor Strange
  • Galactus
  • Large
  • Ironman
  • Loki
  • Luna Snow
  • magic
  • Magneto
  • mantis
  • Namor
  • Penny Parker

This is certainly a great selection of superheroes, consisting of both those that have appeared in recent films as well as some more obscure superheroes that comic book fans will appreciate.

Loki actually just received a full character reveal video in which he demonstrates his powers in a match. Here’s the full breakdown so you can learn about all of his abilities:

Only one map has been announced for Marvel Rivals so far – Yggsgard.

This is a map that lies beneath the sky-closing canopy of the world tree Yggdrasill and, as the name probably suggests, lies within Asgard. This means that there is a lot of gold throughout on both god statues, coupled with decorations on almost every corner that feature the metal. If you look into the skybox, you can see the aforementioned beautiful tree and get a great view of the stars, setting the mood for the entire scene.

You can dive deeper into the map by checking out the full map reveal below. This will give you better insight into the different attack tracks and how to structure your attacks.
