Lotus Evija X Shocks the Nürburgring with the Third Fastest Lap of All Time

  • The Lotus Evija
  • This time it is the third fastest vehicle ever to run on the track, behind only purpose-built racing cars.
  • Lotus hasn’t revealed the full extent of the modifications, but they include extreme aerodynamic improvements and a performance-focused interior.

Lotus decided to try and break the internet today and released onboard footage of its one-off Evija X special car lapping the Nürburgring in just 6:24.047 seconds. This breathtaking time makes it the third fastest vehicle ever to run on the track in its current form.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“4d84e4c9-9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a”); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd(” 6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657″); } });

Lotus revealed very little technical information about the Evija X, which is listed as a prototype in the official Nürburgring lap record leaderboard. The one-off Lotus reportedly shares the carbon fiber tub, batteries and electric motors with the road car.

That means the Evija Piston Heads reports that Multimatic, the company behind the Ford GT Mk IV, may have helped Lotus develop the Evija X into the track rocket it clearly is.

Since Lotus hasn’t released the full list of modifications, we have to rely on what our eyes see. These provide an extreme aero package with a massive front splitter, a huge rear wing and an interior reduced to the essentials. Other components such as suspension, brakes and tires were also replaced to get the most out of the carbon tub and the few thousand (!) HP of the electric drive.

The only cars faster than the Evija

What’s even more impressive is that Lotus expects the Evija X to have some time left at the Nürburgring. The automaker reports that the run was recorded on a humid day in October, so expectations were low. However, the lap was so good that Lotus felt like sharing it.

Unfortunately, it’s not clear what the automaker will do next with the Evija. It remains to be seen whether there will be a special edition that can compete with other track-only hypercars.
