How a Hotel Played the Ultimate Prank on Rainn Wilson from “The Office.”

The staff was in an Italian hotel Schrute smart enough to pull one over The office star Rainn Wilson during a recent stay.

Over the weekend, the 58-year-old actor showed his followers on Instagram how workers at the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi had wrapped his cutlery in Jell-O, a reference to a repeated gag on the sitcom between Wilson’s own character, Dwight Schrute, and Jim Halpert, played by John Krasinski.

“This happened when I ordered room service at my hotel in Florence… @plazahotellucchesi“Wilson wrote on social media. The picture showed a tray of dishes including salad, soup and pasta, next to a knife and fork with a dollop of red gelatin.

ET reached out to Plaza Hotel Lucchesi and spoke with Sales Manager Sara Morucci, who shared how the prank came about because an avid fan of the series was able to pull a prank on the actor thanks to some quick thinking.

“The prank staged against Rainn Wilson came from an idea from our sous chef Dario, a big fan of The office TV series. “It wasn’t planned in advance, but rather conceived when the kitchen received the room service order from Rainn,” she told ET.

“When the waiter called room service, Rainn burst out laughing and called his wife to show her the prank he had devised. After he left, we saw the post tagging the hotel and that made us incredibly proud.” This little prank was appreciated.

The prank – something Krasinski’s character does to Wilson’s in the pilot and again Ed Helms” character later in the series – was certainly appreciated, and not just by the actor behind the role of Dwight.

“Haha!!! This is so wonderful and funny! ❤ 😂 I hope you left a huge tip (in Jell-O!),” responded Helms, who played Andy Bernard.

“❤️❤️❤️❤️,” added Kate Flannerythe actress behind the role of Meredith in the NBC series.

Morucci continued: “As a hotel, we love to personalize service and in this case it was fun to do so!”

Another person who responded to Wilson’s post was travel influencer Kacie Rose, who shared in the comments that it was her boyfriend Dario who was inspired to dupe Dwight — er, Wilson — by her love of the show.

“Hi @rainnwilson – my boyfriend who is a chef at Lucchesi is partly responsible for this as I made him binge watch The Office when we first met as it is my favorite TV show 😂 I’m happy “I enjoyed Florence,” she wrote.

She told ET that not only did she introduce him to the iconic NBC comedy, but they later showed it to Dario’s best friend, another sous chef at the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi. When the two found out Wilson was staying at her job, they knew what they had to do and “the rest is history.”

“I thought, ‘I trained him well,'” she said.

As for whether or not the whole situation triggered a series reboot for the couple, Kacie told ET that they were already on another trip back to Scranton to visit the Dunder Mifflin gang.
