He said: “I think Pakistan is one of the top four to five coaching professions in the world internationally. I liked the idea of working with some of the best cricketers in the world. What’s important is that I have the opportunity to work with some of the best cricketers in the world and that excites me.”
He later added: “My view of Pakistan cricket has not changed for a long time. There is always the expectation that it will always be a high-performing team. We know that this is not always the case in team sports. From a coaching perspective, it’s always wonderful when you can help them (players) reach their true potential. I am looking forward. I’m really looking forward to working with these individual players and then as a team and supporting them in that way.”
Kirsten will integrate into the team as Pakistan prepares their squad for the upcoming World Cup. He discussed his role in leading Pakistan to success in the upcoming tournaments in the next two years. Kirsten emphasized his commitment to maximizing the team’s potential and fostering a winning mentality. He said: “If you can win any of these three ICC events, that in itself is an amazing achievement, whether it is the upcoming event (T20 World Cup) or whether it is in two years’ time.”
He continued: “My job is to make sure the team functions optimally, it’s as simple as that.” And when the team does its best, we always have a good chance of winning a trophy.”
About the coaching philosophy:
Kirsten explained his coaching philosophy and emphasized the importance of continuity and consistency within the team for success. Kirsten said: “I’m definitely a big fan of continuity and consistency. Those are two words that are really important to me. Therefore, there can be some frustration for players who are in shape or out of shape, and that happens in the game. I would definitely do everything I can to make sure the environment stays consistent. If I select a player because I supported him, that player stays and doesn’t go anywhere until it gets to the point where we would have to make a change. As a coach, I firmly believe in continuity and consistency.”
He later added: “My recipe is to stay under the radar in a lot of ways and give the players the opportunity to enjoy the success and when things don’t go well, it’s to show them that we all do pull together to get where we want to go.”
With the T20 World Cup approaching soon, all teams are preparing well. Before that, Pakistan will face Ireland on May 10. England will then play a further four T20 matches against the World Cup, which begins on May 22.
