Richie, 74, told ET’s Denny Directo that he didn’t just do it Kelly Clarkson – the show’s first-ever winner – in mind, but he met her recently and did his best not to overstate the position.

“I didn’t want to bring that up,” Richie joked. “Not only did I think about it, I also took important notes. You know what I’m saying, Kelly, we’ve been together a long time.”

Bryan, 47, recently discussed the possibility of becoming a guest coach. Meghan Trainortakes up the mantle and says she is just one of many talented possible options for the role.

“I think Meghan was always really fun. You know, that’s kind of their brand, having fun,” Bryan shared, adding that he has a list of about 10 names he’d like to see at the table. “[She’s] Really funny, definitely.

Seacrest agreed with the country singer’s comments, saying he believes she would bring a level of energy and courage to the show – a level that is desperately needed after the “Unconditionally” singer leaves in just a few weeks .

“She was very good,” Seacrest said of Trainor. “Meghan is also super talented and she has a great sense of humor. She’s fun and spontaneous.”

“Finding someone to replace Katy with a sense of humor has to be fun, but not selfish, because we insult each other so much,” the “Hello” singer said with a laugh.
