Chucky is Back to Reclaim Its Title as the Best Horror Comedy on Television

Chucky packed the first half of the third season just before Halloween– ended with a cliffhanger that left fans wondering if the little weirdo had made it infiltrate the White HouseHe would figure out how to reverse his sudden slide into old age. Or rather, “how” he would reverse it, not “if,” because if there’s one thing we know by now, it’s that Chucky will always find a way to come back.

The series returns today with the first of four more episodes of season three, and it’s safe to say that Creator Don Mancini and Co. had absolute fun fighting their way through the biggest mystery Chucky has ever faced. As we learned in season three, Chucky pushed his way into the White House for a reason, and it wasn’t about a political power grab. Instead, he had to find himself in the most evil possible environment to get back into the good graces of Damballa – the voodoo god who enabled serial killer Charles Lee Ray to transfer his soul into a good-guy doll in the 1988s Child’s playand the purveyor of the black magic that had until recently imbued Chucky with eternal life.

Of course, wherever Chucky goes, bloodshed follows, so season three has already featured plenty of gruesomely mutilated corpses – and that trend continues. (There are no spoilers in this review, but let’s just say the White House gets soaked in lots of guts.) As Chucky struggles with his deteriorating health, his teenage enemies – Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson) and Lexy (Alyvia). Alyn Lind – tries to find a way to take him down once and for all, and his former lover Tiffany (still in the body of “convicted murderer Jennifer Tilly”, played by Jennifer Tilly) desperately plans an escape from death row in Texas.

There’s a lot stacked together in terms of plot, not to mention the plot revolving around the POTUS (Devon Sawa), his family, and the morally slippery government agent (Gil Bellows) sworn to protect them… too when things get supernaturally freaky in DC But Chucky knows that there are two big reasons why it’s so popular with fans, and neither of them have much to do with the series’ deliberately silly narrative. Chucky Fans want to see bombastic death scenes – and they want those strange moments of humor that made the main character (and others around him) so endearing and enduring.

ChuckyThe third season of ‘s doesn’t disappoint in any way; The show’s writers do a good job of exploring Chucky’s vulnerability, but they also include a hilarious scene where Chucky comes to the attention of other “killer doll” celebrities – including M3GAN– and reacts with exactly the level of obscene disgust you would expect from him. (There is another moment where Chucky demonstrates his hatred of Santa Claus to you extreme The show also takes the time to bridge the gap between Chucky and Tiffany, which was perhaps inevitable but feels remarkably tender considering the estranged lovers’ primary bond is piling up the body count. As could be seen The trailer for the new episodes of the third seasonWe can even see Charles Lee Ray in his ghostly form, finally bringing Brad Dourif out of the vocal booth and giving him his most significant screen presence in the Child’s play Franchise since 1988.

Although there are certain open questions Are tied to the end of season three – with a final act led by guest star John Waters, playing a character both new and crucial to Chucky’s decades-long story –Chucky I can’t resist leaving the door wide open for more. Now, after three seasons, you get the feeling that the campy energy of this series could continue for quite some time; In ChuckyThe world will always have people to creatively slaughter, jokes to deliver (“Forget it, Jake. It’s Chuckytown”), and cackling laughter to remind us, even though the good guys might try To stop him, there’s a good guy who will always come out on top.

Chucky Season three, part two premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on USA and Syfy, with new episodes weekly through May 1. You can also stream episodes the next day on Peacock.
