Adhyayan Suman is all set to make a big comeback with his role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama. Constitution: The Diamond Bazaar. The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on May 1 and Suman’s excitement is palpable. He recently shared a heartfelt social media post expressing his deep emotions about the project. This also included a photo of him along with Bhansali and his father, veteran actor Shekhar Suman, at the premiere of the show.
Adhyayan Suman says Sanjay Leela Bhansali cried and kissed his hand after watching his five-minute monologue in Heeramandi: “The entire group of 500 people clapped.”
Suman’s journey to The Constitution was not without challenges. After making his acting debut years ago, he experienced a period of unemployment. However, The Constitution marks a possible turning point. On Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel, Suman revealed a touching anecdote. He shared how director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was moved to tears after seeing Adhyayan Suman deliver a powerful five-minute monologue during the shoot. “On the first day, I gave clues to Manisha Koirala. One cannot understand Bhansali’s sharpness. He heard my speech in Urdu, looked at me and said, ‘Your father taught you, didn’t he?'” he said.
Shekhar Suman then said, “He had a five-minute recording. Five minutes. This has to be a first in the history of Bhansali Productions but Adhyayan nailed it the first time. He got up from his chair, agreed to the shot and hugged Adhyayan with tears in his eyes. The next thing I know, I get a call from him and he asks, ‘Where has this boy been all this time?'” Shekhar said, crying.
Adhyayan continued, “When I was shooting that scene, I swear on my career, I felt like my father’s ghost had taken control of me. I felt like if I didn’t deliver at that moment, the game would be over. I felt he was inside me. And then the Lord stood up, wept and kissed my hand. There was silence for five minutes, then all 500 people clapped. My whole life flashed before me. All my pain, all my struggle, it came to me.”
Bhansali is venturing into the digital world for the first time The Constitution. The series is set against the backdrop of the 1940s and promises an epic tale of love, power and freedom. The series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal.
