If you are planning to buy a new car, be it a hatchback or an SUV, you should wait for the cars that are scheduled to launch in May 2024. We expect around four new car launches in the budget segment this month. So, without wasting much time, let’s delve into the details of each car.
Next generation Maruti Swift
Maruti will also launch the much-anticipated next-generation Swift in May. More specifically, the all-new Swift will launch tomorrow. This updated version features several exterior changes and a complete interior redesign inspired by the Fronx/Baleno.
The new Swift features technical improvements such as a larger infotainment screen with connected car functions, automatic climate control, LED lighting and stylish alloy wheels. The most significant change is the engine option.
The new-generation Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-series mild hybrid petrol engine in place of the existing 1.2-litre K-series engine. Interested parties can book the car in advance as bookings are open now.
The Swift competes with cars like Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Citroen C3 and Hyundai i20. The car has a huge fan base and the 4th generation model is expected to be a huge hit just like the previous iterations.
Tata Altroz Racer
Tata Motors will launch the Altroz Racer to compete with the Hyundai i20 N Line. However, it is powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that is also offered in the Altroz iTurbo. However, in the Altroz Racer, this engine will be tuned in a more performance-oriented manner, producing 120 HP and 170 Nm.
These performance figures are similar to those of the i20 N Line, which is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 118 PS and 172 Nm. This sportier version of the hatchback will feature a number of cosmetic changes, such as ‘Racer’ badges, a striking two-tone paint scheme, a revised grille and stylish 16-inch alloy wheels.
Tata Motors has not had success with hot hatchbacks in the past. The Tiago JTP was one of the best hatchbacks that Tata has produced in terms of pure performance, but the car just couldn’t cut it in the market. The automaker hopes to buck this trend with the Altroz Racer, which will take on the Hyundai i20 N-Line.
Tata Nexon iCNG
Last but not least, we have another launch from Tata which is the Nexon iCNG. Unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 earlier this year, this model is powered by the same twin-cylinder technology as the Punch CNG, Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG models.
The Nexon will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, although the performance figures will drop. When launched, it will be the country’s first CNG car powered by a turbo petrol engine.
CNG-powered cars are becoming increasingly popular in India as the availability of this fuel has improved significantly in recent years. The Nexon iCNG takes over market leadership in the segment Maruti Brezza CNG, which recently received a safety boost.
