UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) today announced the launch of the Toyota Yaris G Limited for the Malaysian market, and this time there are not only cosmetic revisions but also improvements to the chassis and powertrain of the B-segment hatchback.
The Yaris G Limited is limited to a production run of 600 units and is initially based on the regular Yaris, which is equipped with the well-known Dual VVT-i 2NR-FE 1.5 liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. Engine changes include a cold air intake (CAI) that uses a pod intake filter to help draw in oxygen-rich air for better combustion efficiency.
Improved breathing is combined with throttle control that improves the vehicle’s pedal input to pedal output ratio for better engine response. It is also claimed that this “improves horsepower and increases acceleration,” although UMWT does not state any claimed engine power or performance increases from these changes.
As standard, the Yaris produces 107 hp at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm. As before, the Yaris G Limited relies on the continuously variable transmission (CVT) with seven virtual gears.
The Yaris G Limited’s suspension revisions include new dampers that are stiffer to reduce body roll, improve grip and increase steering precision so the driver can “change lanes with confidence,” according to UMWT. A chassis strut kit is also included to increase body rigidity and improve stability, it said.
Aesthetics are also taken into consideration on the Yaris G Limited, with an aero kit that adds red accents to the front bumper extensions, side skirts and rear bumper diffuser.
Otherwise, the equipment of the Yaris G Limited is based on the regular G variant and includes LED headlights with follow-me-home function, LED daytime running lights and fog lights, LED taillights, halogen rear fog lights, automatically folding exterior mirrors, 16-inch -Alloy wheels, acoustic windshield, front parking sensors and rear disc brakes.
Inside, the Yaris G Limited’s cabin features Optitron-equipped instruments, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system and an electrochromic rearview mirror.
The safety package includes Toyota Safety Sense, which consists of a pre-collision system with AEB, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera system.
The Toyota Yaris G Limited is available in Silver Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and Platinum White Pearl, with the latter two also available in a two-tone version with a black roof and black pillars for a total of five color combinations.
Finally, the pricing. The Toyota Yaris G Limited is sold for RM99,600 It travels without insurance and has a five-year, unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty. A one-year manufacturer’s warranty covering 20,000 km applies to the performance parts of this variant.
