Alliance Air said it would be India’s first commercial airline to fly Indian-made aircraft for civilian operations.

Alliance Air’s made in India Dornier 228 aircraft will be deployed on Tuesday for its first commercial flight on Dibrugarh-Pasighat route, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Monday.

The Center-run Alliance Air had signed an agreement in February with government-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to lease two 17-seater Dornier 228 aircraft. The airline received its first Dornier 228 aircraft on April 7.

The first flight will be on Tuesday between Dibrugarh in Assam and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh to improve connectivity in the northeastern states, the airline said in a statement.

Alliance Air said it would be India’s first commercial airline to fly Indian-made aircraft for civilian operations.

Meanwhile, there will also be an inauguration on Tuesday of the first flight training organization in Lilabari, Assam, it said.

Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Arunachal Pradesh Prime Minister Pema Khandu and Assam Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be present on the occasion of the first flight of Dornier 228 and the opening of the flight training organization.

Until now, Dornier 228 aircraft are only used by the armed forces.
