The launch of the Genesis G70 marked a turning point for the Korean luxury brand as it entered the market Model year 2018. Just a few years earlier, the brand launched with a luxury sedan (and a two-door coupe) for Hyundai, a signal that bigger and better things are coming. Here Hyundai was looking for the BMW 3 Series, the best driving king of the segment, which also included other heavyweights like the Mercedes C-Class and the Lexus IS, all with a new baby-faced brand.

When the automotive press got behind the wheel of the G70, everyone knew Genesis meant business. This was probably the next best attempt to surpass the driving dynamics of the 3 Series. Everything was right with the G70. Front-engine, rear-wheel drive with either a turbocharged I4 with 252 hp or a twin-turbo V6 with 365 hp. You could even have all-wheel drive with one of these engines, with either a six-speed manual transmission (I4 only) or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

A base G70 with a 2.5-liter turbo engine and rear-wheel drive starts at $42,750 (including destination) and can go up to nearly $60,000 for a fully loaded G70 with a turbo V6 engine and all-wheel drive. But you don’t want to pay for that.
