Tonight, the 2024 NFL Draft begins at 8:00 p.m. EST. This year’s class is full of talent at the top of the draft and teams can’t wait to make their selections. A trade up could be the only option to acquire one of the best players in the 2024 draft. Scouts and draft analysts believe three QBs could end up in the first three picks.
If that happens, teams could become even more aggressive and try to acquire a QB of their own. Many draft analysts like ESPN’s Field Yates believe the Vikings are a team looking to move up and land their next franchise QB. The Vikings are currently slated to go 11th and 23rd overall in the 2024 draft. They’ll probably have to move up to the top 10 to get one of the top four QBs. Michigan’s JJ McCarthy is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. A year ago, McCarthy was not considered a first-round prospect. However, the 21-year-old had an outstanding senior season with the Wolverines. Michigan went 15-0 and won the National Championship. JJ McCarthy was their leader and did great things for the team all season long. In his college career, McCarthy posted a 27-1 record as a starter at Michigan. A proven winner that many teams would like to draft.
The only hit JJ McCarthy constantly takes is the way Michigan used him. Unlike some top QBs in this class, McCarthy didn’t throw the ball as often. That’s not what Michigan asked of him last season. The Wolverines were a power running team that brought in the passing game when needed. That’s why JJ McCarthy only threw for 140 yards in the National Championship. Regardless, McCarthy has still proven that he can make all the throws needed at the next level. His arm strength is one of his strongest attributes as a QB coming into the NFL, along with his exceptional decision-making ability.

If JJ McCarthy is drafted by the Vikings, the team will not be pressured to use him immediately. That’s because Minnesota signed veteran QB Sam Darnold this offseason. He could start at QB in 2024 until the team feels JJ McCarthy is ready to be their full-time starter.
