Here are a few tips we’ve learned from using Govee smart lighting over the last few years.
Installation: Plan installations carefully, especially with panels, by testing your planned layout before gluing anything to the wall. In particular, think about where the power cord goes. Thoroughly clean all surfaces where you plan to install smart lighting, keeping in mind that removing the adhesive may damage the paint or wallpaper.
Connect: Even after Govee lights are connected to WiFi, your phone will connect via Bluetooth to allow direct control and firmware updates. If you’re having trouble connecting, move closer to your lights (no more than 6 feet).
calibration: Some Govee smart lighting devices, such as: Some sync products, such as TV or gaming sync products, require a calibration process to function properly. Take your time and follow the instructions carefully for the best results. You can repeat the calibration at any time in the Govee app.
names: If you didn’t choose a meaningful name during setup or want to change your light names, select the option Device Click the tab, select a device, then tap the gear in the top right Device name edit. Keep in mind that these names are also used for Alexa and Google Assistant when setting up voice controls. Therefore, it is best to be short and memorable.
rooms: If you have multiple Govee lights, it’s worth tapping on the three dots in the top right Device Tab in the app to select Space managementCreate the rooms you want and add your lights to them. This makes it easier to control light groups.
voice control: Since the Govee app is such a mess for basic everyday things, you might prefer to use a voice assistant to control your lights. You can link most Govee lights to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Detailed instructions can be found in the Govee app. Choose a light on the Device Tap the tab, tap the gear in the top right and look down User Guide. If other connections are available for this device, e.g. For example, Razer Chroma, you can also find the corresponding instructions. Unfortunately, the Matter-supporting M1 above is so far the only Govee option that works with Apple Homekit.
automation: You can schedule lights to turn on and off by selecting them on the Device Tab and selection timer. You can also create automations automation Tab. You can set all lights to turn off at a specific time each night, but you can also set up triggers to change brightness, color, color temperature, mode, and more (the available options depend on the device).
Colors and effects: Choose a light on the Device Tab and tap on it Effects lab to find all available colors and effects to try. If you want to cycle through different effects, tap Autoplayspecify how you want it to change and make a list of effects to cycle through.
Explore: Some suggestions can be found on the Home tab in the app, but if you look below there is a Explore Option (globe icon). The Explore section is a great place to learn more about what your lights can do. At the top you can see group options or select individual devices.
Discover: One final thing worth looking at in the bottom bar of the app is the Discover Section (compass symbol). You’ll find various hashtagged topics as well as numerous posts and videos from Govee light owners. Here you will find ideas, tips and troubleshooting help for your Govee lighting.
