West Indies Announce Provisional Squad for First Two ODIs Against Irish Women’s Team; Chinelle Henry Returns from Injury

All-rounder Chinelle Henry has been included in the West Indies Women’s 16-man preliminary squad for the first two ODIs of the upcoming three-match series against Ireland at home. Chinelle Henry recovered from the injury and regained full fitness ahead of the ODI series.

West Indies Captain of the U19 Women Ashmini Munisar and her teammate, wicketkeeper Shunelle Sawh, were called up to the senior team for the first time. Munisar was the third highest wicket-taker in the T20 Blaze, picking up six wickets in five matches at an economy of 3.31.

Ann Browne-John, the CWI’s senior selector for women’s cricket, said the selectors are looking to give the youngsters opportunities in the upcoming series against Ireland.

“The ODI series against Ireland provides a good opportunity for batters to concentrate, stay at bat longer and build an innings.” Ann Browne-John said.

“Some of the younger players would move from the shorter format to the 50-over format. They definitely have the potential and it is important that the policy of identifying young players and developing the talent pool continues.”

The West Indies and Ireland are in the bottom two places of the 2022-25 ICC Women’s Championship. The Windies only won one game while Ireland lost all their games. Browne-John believes the win will help the team move up the standings and qualify directly for the World Championships.

“The squad displays great batting balance coupled with a variety of bowling styles, which has been missing in the recent past. “Winning here will bring valuable points as the team looks to climb the rankings and qualify for the World Championships.” Browne-John said.

The West Indies will host three ODI matches and three T20Is against Ireland at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia. The three ODIs will be played on June 26, 28 and July 1 three T20Is everything is played July 4th, 6th and 8th. Selectors will select 13 members before the start of the series.
