WATCH: Piyush Chawla Cleans up Heinrich Klaasen with a Beauty in MI vs SRH | IPL 2024

Piyush Chawla showcased his bowling prowess in the 55th game of the year Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024Wreak havoc for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday (May 6) at the Wankhede Stadium.

Decision to bat first, SRH opener Abhishek Sharma And Travis Head ensured a stable start in the powerplay, with Head being particularly aggressive and scoring a brisk 48 from 30 balls. However, the tide turned when MI’s bowlers, led by Spinner, stepped up Piyush Chawla, intervened. Chawla’s tenure saw SRH lose wickets at regular intervals after the good start.

Chawla’s first breakthrough came in the third over of the eleventh over when he dismissed the dangerous opponent Travis Head. With a pitched throw onto leg stump, Chawla enticed Head to attempt a swing. Still, Head failed to connect the ball cleanly, resulting in an uncomplicated catch Tilak Varma at the deep backward square.

Crucial wicket from Heinrich Klaasen

In his subsequent over, Chawla continued his impressive streak by picking up another crucial wicket. This time it was his victim Heinrich Klaasen, who tried to take on the spinner by playing over the line, to a quicker googly from Chawla. Nevertheless, Klaasen’s intentions were thwarted as he only managed to get an inside edge onto the stumps, causing the woodwork to be disturbed and the batsman to be sent back to the pavilion.

Chawla strikes again

Chawla grabbed his third wicket of the game by dismissing the SRH batter. Abdul Samad, LBW. Chawla bowled a long ball onto the stumps. Samad wanted to improve on the leg side but ended up playing all the way down the leg and was hit on the face. Samad was ruled out on the field by the referee, prompting him to review the decision. Despite the review, replays confirmed the dismissal as Samad had already started walking towards the boundary ropes after watching the replay.

Pat Cummins’ late blitz boosts MI’s total

In the final phase of the innings, the SRH skipper Pat Cummins showcased his batting prowess by playing crucial innings. He scored 35 runs off just 17 balls, including two boundaries and two sixes. Cummins’ aggressive batting helped his side’s total reach a competitive score of 173/8 at the end of the allotted 20 overs. Now captain Hardik Pandya and Chawla proved to be outstanding bowlers for MI, scalping three wickets each.
