  • Thanks to a new battery preconditioning function, the VW ID.3 Pro S is now able to charge faster.
  • The interior changes include the 12.9-inch infotainment, which can already be found in other VW models.
  • The more powerful electric motor delivers 228 hp and is also more efficient than before.

Just a year after the debut of the facelifted VW ID.3, the automaker introduced a series of improvements focused on infotainment, equipment and electric powertrain. The VW ID.3 Pro S gets a more powerful electric motor, while the entire model range benefits from the latest infotainment, new functions and shorter charging times.

The ID.3 Pro S previously shared the 201 hp (150 kW / 204 hp) electric motor with the rest of the model range, but now it has grown to 228 hp (170 kW / 231 hp). The performance upgrade is standard in Germany, while customers in other European markets can upgrade their electric vehicles after purchase thanks to the new “power on demand” option. The extra power shortens the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint to 7.1 seconds, 0.8 seconds quicker than before. Additionally, the efficiency of the electric motor has been improved, increasing the combined WLTP range by 13 km (8 miles), which now stands at 559 km (347 miles).

The ID.3’s 77 kWh battery now has a preconditioning function that brings it to the optimal temperature before charging. This allows charging with up to 175 kW direct current, reducing charging times by “several minutes”, especially in cold weather.

Inside, the ID.3 Pro S adopts the new 12.9-inch touchscreen display, which has already found its way into newer models in the VW range such as the ID.7. The display has fewer buttons and runs the latest infotainment system with simplified menus, a smarter IDA voice assistant and ChatGPT integration. Further changes in the interior include the familiar touch sliders, the moved driving mode selector switch and the slightly improved buttons on the steering wheel.

The company has also further developed the ID.3’s augmented reality head-up display. In addition, VW improved the safety features of the electric vehicle and added the exit warning system, the optional Park Assist Plus and an advanced version of Travel Assist.

New features include the Wellness app with Fresh Up, Calm Down and Power Break functions that adjust lighting, sound and air conditioning accordingly. Finally, for audiophiles there is an optional 480-watt audio system from Harman Kardon.

The VW ID.3 Pro S can already be ordered in Germany at a price of 47,595 euros (50,870 US dollars) before incentives. Further equipment will follow soon, such as the flagship hot hatch ID.3 GTX, which was already equipped with the newer technology.
