Virat Kohli’s RCB is Heading to the IPL Playoffs!! Here’s How…

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 35 runs in the 41st match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their second win and ended their six-match losing streak in the ongoing prestigious tournament.

The Faf du Plessis-led team scored a total of 206 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, April 25. The bowlers from Bengaluru put up a dominant performance and restricted the opposition team to 171 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Rajat Patidar was the standout performer of the last game, scoring 50 runs off just 20 deliveries, including two fours and five sixes. Virat Kohli added 51 runs off 43 balls while Cameron Green played an unbeaten cameo of 37 runs off 20 balls with the help of five boundaries.

SRH suffered an early setback when in-form batsman Travis Head was dismissed for 1. Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen fell in the power play. Bengaluru’s Karn Sharma, Swapnil Singh and Green claimed two wickets each as Hyderabad scored 171-8 in 20 overs.

How can RCB secure a playoff spot in IPL 2024?

Exactly a month after beating PBKS, the team from Bengaluru recorded their second win. Fans on social media are pondering whether RCB can qualify for the IPL playoffs this season. There is a possibility that the team led by Faf du Plessis will reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

RCB needs to win all remaining games to have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The team will finish with 14 points if they win the remaining five games. Bengaluru could potentially secure fourth place without having to worry about net run rate if other results go in their favour.

For RCB to secure a place in the playoffs, the top three teams – Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and SRH – need to finish well with 22, 20 and 20 points respectively. It is noteworthy that these teams will not play against the Bengaluru team in the remaining matches of the T20 tournament.

RCB could create IPL history by becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs with 14 points in a 10-team competition. However, the probability is extremely low. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have 10 points while Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) have eight points.
