We have seen police departments from various cities illegally confiscate and break loud silencers. Recently, the city police of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, also did the same. A video showing police smashing a total of 509 illegal silencers of Royal Enfield motorcycles has been shared online.

In the video, a road roller could be seen lining up in front of the silencers laid on the road. A few moments later, the road roller started smashing all the illegal silencers seized by the Hapur police.
Hapur police are cracking down on illegal silencers
Addressing the media, Varun Mishra, DSP of Hapur Police said, “Modified silencers cause more noise pollution… From January 1 to date, more than 500 such modified silencers have been seized by Hapur Police.” The same was done today with the help of Road rollers destroyed…”
Hyderabad Police also destroyed 1,000 silencers
Just a few weeks ago, Hyderabad police authorities also shared a video of themselves breaking 1,000 similar illegal silencers. The video was shared on X. It was stated that around 1000 modified silencers were crushed from bicycles.
The post said: “As per the amendment to Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, installing blast horns and modified silencers on your bike which cause air and noise pollution will attract a fine up to Rs. 10,000 and imprisonment up to to six months.”
Pune police also conducted a similar raid
For those who may not know, in February this year, Pune police also seized and destroyed 571 illegal silencers. According to reports, the Pune police have even issued a new WhatsApp number. This special WhatsApp number has been circulated so that people can directly report their complaints about modified silencers.
It was also reported that within just 12 days of this initiative, Pune Police managed to impose fines on 2,183 motorcyclists with modified silencers. This drive was launched by the Pune Police on February 7 to curb the noise pollution caused by these drivers.
3000 half helmets and 70 silencers were destroyed by the Karnataka Police
In other similar raids against illegal silencers, Shivamogga Police from Karnataka also destroyed 70 illegal silencers. The police confiscated not only Royal Enfield mufflers, but also other loud and illegal exhaust systems from superbikes.
Additionally, police departments have done something unique. They also smashed more than 3,000 half helmets. Shivamogga police spokesperson Mithun Kumar in his interview with mediapersons said that this operation had been going on in Shivamogga town since January this year.
He explained that “wearing a half helmet is like dressing up for a namesake.” Kumar added that this operation was initiated to raise public awareness. The operation was conducted under the leadership of PI Santhosh Kumar. Finally, he concluded that he would continue this operation in the coming days.
