Jaideep Sahni’s stance on lip sync songs
Jaideep Sahni, lyricist of songs like “Double hello‘ (Pursue) And ‘Naina there, what crime?‘ (Andha Dhun) and films like Chak De! India And befikre, once told me why when he was working as a screenwriter in Yash Raj Films, he still grabbed every chance to write a song even in external films. “The lip-sync song is the unique selling point of Indian cinema!” he exclaimed. “And I am sorry to say that today few of the current directors know the art and skill of incorporating lip-sync songs in Hindi cinema.” That was in 2010! In 2024 the scenario is much worse! It is therefore pleasing that a contemporary film is liked Madgaon Express used several lip-synced songs that were imaginatively integrated. Since the music was different, Rafi recorded his part at a different time and Kishore had asked the composer to inform him so that he could be there when the senior singer sang. After Rafi finished, an emotional Kishore raved about the emotional rendition and told the composer that he could never have done it half as well as he did! And it was at that critical stage when everyone was saying that Kishore Kumar had “finished” Rafi.!
“Rare” greetings for a singer from an actor
Very often a singer sang less often for an actor, but the actor had a great personal appreciation for him.
