The Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept is Presented at the Beijing Auto Show

The Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept just came to life at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show and is a true sports sedan. Don’t confuse it with the G80 Magma that was just unveiled at the NY Auto Show – it has a gasoline engine and is a real production car sold in the Middle East. This new Magma is electric and, for now, a pure concept.

All in all, this Magma concept looks pretty production-ready to us. Aesthetically, it’s similar in many ways to its petrol-powered twin, but still stands out. Of course, the Acme Blue paint is all-new and was specifically chosen for the unveiling location in China. Genesis says it was inspired by particularly hot blue flames, which “symbolizes the commitment to China’s continuous progress and progress, while symbolizing the ever-evolving nature of the brand’s Magma program.”

The blue paint matches all other visual improvements. It features a much more aggressive front grille, wider front and rear fenders, large 21-inch wheels (with staggered, wider rear tires), a lower ride height, a large lip spoiler, a rear diffuser and a fog light integrated into the bumper to evoke racing cars .

As for the added power, Genesis says this G80 EV Magma Concept comes with suspension tuned for “increased road holding and better cornering performance.” It also features larger, ventilated brakes and lightweight wheels that direct airflow to the brakes. Unfortunately, Genesis doesn’t provide any information about the powertrain, so we’re assuming it hasn’t been drastically reworked for this concept.

There are no photos of the interior, but Genesis says Alcantara, quilted leather and lots of carbon fiber were used. To match the bright exterior, the carbon fiber in question is also provided with a blue braid.

Beyond the concept, Genesis unveiled an updated long-wheelbase version of its Electrified G80 (see gallery above). It is also painted in a unique blue paint called “Vision Blue”, which will be exclusive to the Chinese market. Its interior is just as blue as the exterior with epic quilted blue leather everywhere you look. By extending the wheelbase (by 5.1 inches), the vehicle’s profile looks more like the G90 than the G80 Electrified on which it is based. It also features a revised front fascia, 19-inch dish-style wheels and of course adjustable VIP seats in the rear, as well as many other refinements and luxurious extras. We’ll never see this long-wheelbase version of the electric G80 in the US, but it’s certainly pretty to look at from a distance.
